Why in News?

India’s agriculture and allied sectors are witnessing a significant transformation, marked by rising productivity, stronger farmer support systems, and greater resilience.

  • Livelihood support – It provides livelihoods to approximately 46.1% of the workforce.
  • Gross Value Added – Rose from Rs 20.94 lakh crore in 2014-15 to an estimated Rs 52.08 lakh crore in 2025-26.
  • Harvesting Higher Production

  • Support to Farmers – Direct support to farmers has expanded through schemes such as Kisan Credit Card (KCC), Pradhan Mantri Kisan Maandhan Yojana, etc.
  • PM-KISAN – More than Rs.4.47 lakh crore has been transferred directly into farmers’ bank accounts.
  • PM Fasal Bima Yojana – More than 92.46 crore farmer applications have been insured since the scheme’s launch in 2016-17.

  • Milk Production – India holds the leading global position, accounting for nearly 25% of global output.
  • Poultry & meat production – It also expanded, with India ranking 2nd in egg production and 4th in meat production globally.

    • Higher agricultural production,
    • Increased farmer support,
    • Wider access to institutional credit and
    • Growing adoption of technology and sustainable farming practices.
