Garba Dance

  • Garba is a dance that honors, worships, and celebrates the feminine form of divinity.
  • The word "garba" comes from the Sanskrit word garbha, meaning "womb."
  • Traditionally, the dance is performed by women in a circle around a clay lantern with a light inside, called a garbha deep ("womb lamp").
  • Commonly performed at festivals and on other special occasions in the state of Gujarat, India.
  • It includes singing and a musical accompaniment traditionally provided by dhol (double-headed drum) and the similar but smaller dholak; hand clapping; and assorted metallic idiophones, such as cymbals.

Inidan Air Quality Index (AQI)

Recently, the air quality in the national capital was recorded in the ‘very poor’ category.

  • AQI is a number used to communicate to the public how polluted the air currently is or how polluted it is forecasted to become.
  • Coverage – 8 major pollutants such as PM2.5, PM10, NO2, SO2, CO, O3, ammonia (NH3), and lead (Pb).
  • Introduced in – 2014, by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
  • Aim – To standardize air quality reporting across the country.

Recently, 28 Maoists surrender in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur.

  • Poona Margham (New Path) – Rehabilitation for social integration, a grassroots rehabilitation campaign that’s helping former insurgents find their way back to society.
  • Launched by – Bastar Range Police, across all 7 Maoist-affected districts of the Bastar Range.
  • Objectives – To encourage Naxalites to return to mainstream life.
  • To reclaim their identities, reconnect with families, and lead lives of dignity and self-reliance.

Polity & Governance

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI)

UIDAI deactivates over 2 Crore Aadhaar numbers of deceased individuals.

  • It is a statutory authority established under the provisions of the Aadhaar (Targeted Delivery of Financial and Other Subsidies, Benefits and Services) Act, 2016.
  • Launched in – 2016 by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
  • The Aadhaar Act 2016 has been amended by the Aadhaar and Other Laws (Amendment) Act, 2019.
  • No Aadhaar number is ever re-assigned to another individual.
  • Objectives – To issue Unique Identification numbers (UID), named as "Aadhaar", to all residents of India.
    • Robust enough to eliminate duplicate and fake identities.
    • To verifiable and authenticable in an easy, cost-effective way.

Legal Information Management & Briefing System (LIMBS)

  • LIMBS – It is a web-based portal.
  • Developed by – Department of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Law & Justice.
  • Objective – To create a National Portal of all cases pending in various courts/ Tribunals as a part of the e-Governance initiative.

International Relations and Issues

Host of the Centenary Commonwealth Games 2030

  • Amdavad – It is officially known as Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and has been confirmed as the host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
  • Ratified by – 74 Commonwealth member nations and territories at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow.

10th Session of Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation (JCTEC)

  • Held in – New Delhi, between India and Slovenia.
  • Aim – To review the current state of bilateral economic engagement, strengthen cooperation across key sectors, and chart a forward-looking roadmap for trade and investment between the two nations.
  • Sectoral cooperation – Across agriculture, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, health, transport, energy, tourism, MSMEs, and Ayurveda and traditional systems of medicine, as well as other trade and business-related matters.

5th edition of India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF)

  • Held in – New Delhi.
  • Aim – To bring people together to discuss the direction of India’s internet and to identify the areas that need attention.
  • Participants – Government departments, tech companies, civil society groups, universities and policy circles are expected to join the multistakeholder event.
  • Theme – “Advancing Internet Governance for an Inclusive and Sustainable Viksit Bharat.”
  • 3 key sub-themes –
    • Inclusive Digital Future,
    • Digital Infrastructure for Resilient and Sustainable Growth, and
    • AI for People, Planet and Progress, focusing on safe, responsible and meaningful use of AI.

India Internet Governance Forum (IIGF)

  • IIGF – It is the national chapter of the UN Internet Governance Forum.
  • It follows a multi-stakeholder format where government, civil society, industry, technical bodies and academics get equal space.
  • Set up in – 2021.
  • Aim – To create a space for open conversations on internet policy issues.
  • A 14-member committee with people from different sectors looks after the forum’s work.

Economy

NIDHI-Entrepreneurs-in-Residence (EIR) Programme

  • Introduced by – National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board.
  • Nodal ministry – Department of Science & Technology (DST).
  • Aim – To provides tremendous opportunities for innovative entrepreneurs to expand their networks and get critical feedback on their ventures in order to promote their entrepreneurial career goals and aspirations.
  • Fellowship – Rs.30,000 per month to each beneficiary identified by the implementing partner Institution (TBI) for a full year.
