  • Notified underBiological Diversity Act, 2002.
  • Purpose – It maintains specimens of selected flora and fauna.

Mission 70 Lakh Plantation Campaign

Recently, union home minister has launched the Mission 70 Lakh Plantation campaign.

  • It is an initiative to plant over 70 lakh (7 million) saplings Around National Capital Region (NCR).

  • Under – “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (Plant4Mother) initiative.
  • Objective – To expand urban green cover, improve ecological balance, and combat air pollution.

BRICS nations adopt “Guwahati declaration” to combat drug trafficking recently.

  • Adopted by – BRICS member nations.
  • Objective – To drastically strengthen international cooperation against illicit drug trafficking and related organised crime.

Kamarajar Port

Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL) has become India’s 2nd major port after Visakhapatnam recently.

  • Location – Ennore, Tamil Nadu (Coromandel Coast).
  • Operational draft18 metres (deep enough for large vessels to dock).
  • Operational capacity – It handle bulk carriers and Capesize vessels with carrying capacities of 1,70,000 deadweight tonnes.
  • Significance – This development is aligned with Maritime India Vision 2030 and Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

Sirsa Kinnow

Sirsa Kinnow is recently received Geographical Indication (GI) tag.

  • Sirsa Kinnow – High-yield hybrid citrus fruit.
  • It is Haryana’s first fruit to receive a GI tag.
  • Grown in – Sirsa district, Haryana.
  • Physical features
    • Larger, juicer, and sweeter compared to kinnow varieties in other regions.
    • It features a glossy, golden-orange skin.
  • Resilience – It can withstand 40°C during summer and 0°C during winter.
  • Benefits
    • Packed with Vitamin C, calcium, and potassium.
    • It contains 0.2% to 0.3% pectin, offers anti-cancer properties.

Mission: Million Oak Trees by 2047

Recently, Mission: Million Oak Trees by 2047 has been launched.

  • It is a state-wide ecological restoration initiative aimed at reviving native Himalayan oak forests.
  • Launched by – Sikkim Government.
  • Seeks to – Plant one million native oak trees by 2047.
  • Significance – The initiative is estimated to generate 10 to 50 billion litres of groundwater recharge.

  • Update – It was struck by a severe geomagnetic solar storm during the final stage of its Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP).

NASA Swift Boost Mission

Recently, the NASA Swift boost mission successfully launched.

  • Built by – Arizona-based katalyst space technologies.
  • Functions
    • It is a refrigerator-sized LINK (robotic servicing spacecraft) satellite tasked with docking with the falling space telescope.
    • Then bringing it back to a safe, stable altitude.
  • Objective – To rescue the aging Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory.

Girish Bharadwaj – Bridge Man of India

Recently, the Bridge Man of India’ Girish Bharadwaj passes away in Sullia.

  • Birth place – Karnataka.
  • Known as – "Bridge Man of India" or Sethu Bandhu.
  • Contribution – He was renowned for constructing over 140 low-cost suspension footbridges across remote, inaccessible villages.
  • Awards – Padma Shri (2017).

7th National Water Awards

  • The Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR), Ministry of Jal Shakti has launched the 7th National Water Awards.
  • Any State, District, Urban Local Body, Dam Own Agencies, & Industry who have done good work in the field of water conservation and management is eligible.
  • Introduced in accomplishing the government’s vision ‘Jal Samridh Bharat’.
  • It aims to sensitize the public about the importance of water and motivate them to adopt the best water usage practices.
  • It is to encourage the stakeholders to adopt a holistic approach toward water resource management in the country as surface water and groundwater play a significant role in the water cycle.
  • A major attraction of the 7th National Water Awards is the ‘Dam Safety’ theme for the Best Implemented Project in the Water Sector category.
