Why in news?
Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs reviews the progress of projects being implemented under PMJVK in Chhattisgarh.
PMJVK – It is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme to develop infrastructure and basic amenities in minority-concentrated areas.
Objective –To reduce development gaps by improving access to education, healthcare, housing, and livelihood opportunities for minority communities.
Restructured scheme –The erstwhile Multi-sectoral Development Programme (MsDP) has been restructured & renamed as PMJVK, implementation since 2018.
Nodal Ministry –Ministry of Minority Affairs.
Eligibility Criteria –
Target Areas – Projects must be located in areas where minorities make up more than 25% of the population within a 15 km radius, as certified by the State Level Committee (SLC).
Project Approval – The SLC evaluates the feasibility of proposed projects before recommending them to the Ministry (SLC approval is must).
Sustainability Requirement – States/UTs must ensure recurring costs, maintenance, and staffing are planned to avoid issues after project completion.
Focus on –Developing infrastructure & providing basic amenities such as schools, health centers, hostels, community halls, drinking water, sanitation and skill development facilities in Minority Concentrated Areas (MCAs).
Implemented by –State Governments, District Level Committees (DLCs), and local implementing agencies. It is not an individual application-based scheme.
Beneficiaries – Cover all communities residing in Minority Concentrated Areas (MCAs) including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis, and Jains.
Exclusions – Does not provide direct cash assistance or individual financial benefits.
Excludes recurring administrative expenses & personal subsidies & does not support programs unrelated to infrastructure or community development.
