Why in News?
Recently, in Pattinamarudhar Village of Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, around 1,500 artefacts have been excavated.
- Excavation done by - Tamil Nadu State Department of Archaeology (TNSDA)
Discoveries
- Excavation –Have yielded ancient coins, porcelain pottery fragments, shell ornaments & Figurines.
- Also witnessed successive cultural phases & acted as a thriving coastal trade center.
- Historical Counterpart – Experts suggested that Pattinamarudhur’s trade significance could be on par with Korkai, a famous ancient port.
