Why in news?
Molbio Diagnostics, an innovative point-of-care diagnostics company, has been awarded the KOCHON Prize 2024 by the Stop TB Partnership.
Established in– 2006.
Purpose –The prize is awarded annually to an individual or organization making outstanding contributions to the fight against TB.
Presented by –The Stop TB Partnership and the Kochon Foundation of the Republic of Korea.
Theme for 2024 –“Innovation and impact in the adoption and roll-out of new tools to end TB".
Prize – A medal and US$65,000, making it the world's largest award specifically dedicated to TB.
Winner for 2024 –Molbio Diagnostics was recognized for its groundbreaking work in democratizing TB diagnostics through its innovative Truenat platform.
Key Innovation –Truenat system is a portable, battery-operated, real-time molecular diagnostic technology endorsed by the WHO, which allows for accurate, on-site detection of TB in low-resource settings without the need for extensive laboratory infrastructure.
Significance –Molbio is the 1st private company globally & only the 3rd Indian entity after the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Dr. L.S. Chauhan—to receive this distinction.
