  • Asia’s Capacity Growth – Asia led the global LNG regasification capacity additions in 2025, due to the new capacity from China and India, representing 24% and 11.3% of global additions, respectively.
  • Asia Pacific Import Trends – Asia Pacific remained the largest LNG-importing region, but its imports into Asia fell mainly due to lower intake in China and India.

Status of India

  • Capacity Addition – India added 52.5 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) of regasification capacity across eight terminals.
  • Global Ranking – With this expansion, it surpassed Spain to become the 4th largest market for regasification capacity in 2025.
    • Dahej LNG Terminal, Gujarat – Ranks as the 6th largest regasification facility globally and stands out as India's premier ultra-large energy hub
  • Reason for rise – Rising demand for fertiliser, city gas and utilities & the Government’s push for enhanced share of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the energy mix.
  • Target – India’s natural gas consumption is forecast to increase by nearly 60% by 2030 (International Energy Agency), driven by robust growth in city gas distribution, industrial demand, and power generation.
  • LNG Regasification Utilisation – Fell to about 47% in 2025, down from 58% in 2024, due to the
