Why in News?

Underlining the importance of technology in governance, the Prime Minister asked Chief Secretaries to replicate the Centre’s PRAGATI platform at the state level during the two-day Chief Secretaries Conference.

  • PRAGATI – Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation, a multi-purpose & multi-modal platform to fast-track projects, resolve public grievances, and strengthen cooperative federalism.
  • Launched in – 2015
  • Aim – To address the common man’s grievances & simultaneously monitor and review important programmes and projects of the Central and State Governments.
  • Designed by – The PMO team with the help of the National Informatics Centre (NIC).

Key Features

  • 3-tier system – It operates as a three-tier system, comprising the Prime Minister’s Office, Union Government Secretaries, and State Chief Secretaries.
  • Bundles 3 latest technologies – Digital data management, video-conferencing and geo-spatial technology.
  • Real-Time Insights & Collaborative Governance – It offers visuals of ground-level realities for informed decision-making & ensures seamless collaboration across governance levels.
  • Project Monitoring – It also simultaneously monitors and reviews important programmes and projects of the Government of India, as well as projects flagged by State Governments.
  • Grievance Redressal – The citizens’ complaints can be escalated directly to the PMO.
  • Accountability – The Prime Minister personally reviews progress monthly, creating a culture of responsibility.
  • PRAGATI day – Held every month on the 4th Wednesday, the programme enables the PM to interact with Union and State Secretaries through video-conferencing enhanced by geo-informatics data.
