Why in News?

Recently, at Pattinamarudhar Village in Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, around 1,500 artefacts have been unearthed.

Discoveries

Excavation –Have yielded ancient coins, porcelain pottery fragments, shell ornaments & Figurines.
Also witnessed successive cultural phases & acted as a thriving coastal trade center.
Historical Counterpart – Experts suggested that Pattinamarudhur’s trade significance could be on par with Korkai, a famous ancient port.
