Why in News?
Recently, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has granted market authorisation to Takeda Biopharmaceuticals India’s QDENGA (TAK‑003), making it the first dengue vaccine approved in India.
- Type – Live‑attenuated tetravalent vaccine, protecting against all four dengue virus serotypes.
- Dosage – Two subcutaneous injections (0.5 ml each) are given three months apart.
- Age Group – Approved for individuals aged 4 to 60 years.
- Screening – Does not require pre‑vaccination dengue screening, simplifying administration.
- WHO Recommendation – For dengue‑endemic regions with high transmission.
- WHO prequalification enables procurement by UNICEF and PAHO.
- Global Approvals – Licensed in 43 countries across Asia, Latin America, and Europe.
