Why in News?

The India’s overall workforce participation rate (WPR) for age 15 years and above increased to 52.8 per cent in August.

It was the highest level recorded since March, 2026.
Released by – Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
Purpose – PLFS is the primary source of data on activity participation and employment and unemployment conditions of the population.
Monthly results of PLFS are released in the form of Monthly Bulletins.
It presents estimates of key labour market indicators –
Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) measures the percentage of the working-age population that is either working or actively looking for a job.
Worker Population Ratio (WPR) is the percentage of employed people out of the total population.
A person is unemployed if they did not work but actively sought or was available for work.
Current Weekly Status (CWS) –
- Reference Period: Uses the last 7 days preceding the survey date.
- Employed Status: A person is employed if they worked for at least 1 hour on any day of the reference week.
