Rashtriya Ekta Diwas

  • Commemorate to – The birth anniversary of the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, is celebrated every year on 31st October.
  • This year’s celebration of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas is particularly special to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.
  • Objectives – To highlight the spirit of national unity, harmony and patriotism, inspiring citizens to embrace these values.
  • All citizens are encouraged to actively participate and be part of this grand and auspicious celebration.

Schemes

Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM)

PM-ABHIM allocates Rs. 64,180 crore (2021-26) to strengthen India's health infrastructure for pandemic preparedness and emergency response.

  • Launched in – October 2021.
  • Aim – To upgrades healthcare facilities from primary to tertiary levels including Ayushman Arogya Mandir (AAMs), labs, critical care blocks, and surveillance systems nationwide.
  • Significance – The mission advances universal health coverage goals and aligns with SDG-3 targets.

International Relations and Issues

Pandemic Agreement of the World Health Organisation

In May 2025, WHO member states adopted the world’s 1st Pandemic Agreement after 3 years of negotiations in response to COVID-19.

  •  Aim – To make pandemic responses more equitable and strengthen global coordination in prevention, preparedness and response which ensure fair access to vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics.
  • Framework – The resolution outlines steps toward implementation, including drafting an annex to establish a Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing (PABS) system through an Intergovernmental Working Group (IGWG).
  • Once adopted by the World Health Assembly and ratified by 60 countries, the Agreement will then enter into force.
  • Mandates – Member States also directed the Intergovernmental Working Group (IGWG) to enable setting up of the Coordinating Financial Mechanism for pandemic prevention, preparedness and response, and the Global Supply Chain and Logistics Network (GSCL) to ensure timely and affordable access to health products during pandemics.
  • Significance – The Agreement complements the International Health Regulations, amended last year to enhance global outbreak detection and response.

Security

Naval Commanders' Conference 2025

  • It is the 2nd edition of the biannual Naval Commanders' Conference which is held for 3 days.
  • Highlights -  
    • 5 naval publications – Such as Regulations for Naval Armament Service, GeM Handbook, and the Foreign Cooperation Roadmap etc.
    • ‘NIPUN’ (Naval Intellectual Portal for Unified Knowledge) – A one-stop-solution portal was launched as an online aggregator of intellectual work of the naval fraternity in various domains.
    • Sagar Manthan event – It brought Naval Commanders, subject matter experts, and thought leaders together to deliberate on contemporary issues.
  • Aim – To deliberate on issues of operational preparedness, maritime security, capability development, and Tri-Service integration.
  • Significance – Reaffirming the Navy's status as a ‘Combat Ready, Credible, Cohesive and Future-Ready Force’.
  • It underscores progress towards a fully Aatmanirbhar Navy by 2047.

INS Vikrant

  • It is an India’s 1st indigenous aircraft carrier, was commissioned in 2022.
  • Takes its name from – India’s 1st aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant (R11), which was decommissioned in 1997.
  • Conceptualised and designed by – The Indian Navy’s in house Warship Design Bureau (WDB).
  • Comprising – 76% indigenous content, including 30,000 tonnes of steel from SAIL, the project engaged 550+ OEMs, 100 MSMEs, generating 2,000 direct and 12,500 indirect jobs.
  • Features – Equipped with advanced automation, it operates an air wing of 30 aircraft, including MiG-29K, Kamov-31, MH-60R, MiG 29 KUB, Chetak and ALH.
  • Demonstrated versatility in March 2025 by evacuating injured crew from MV Heilan Star, 230 nautical miles off West of Goa.
  • It can generate electricity sufficient for 5,000 households.

Science

Maha MedTech Mission

  • MAHA MedTech – Mission for Advancement in High-Impact Areas - Medical Technology.
  • Launched by – Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Gates Foundation.
  • Aim – To accelerate innovation in India’s medical technology sector, reduce reliance on high-cost imports, and promote equitable access to affordable and high-quality medical technologies.

Miscellaneous

Fit India Freedom Run 6.0

  • Held from – 2nd to 31st October 2025, will conclude with the Unity Run on 31st October, marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
  • Organized by – Government e Marketplace (GeM).
  • Aligns with – The national campaign under the Fit India Movement.
  • Theme – ‘Swachchhta and Swasthya’ (Cleanliness and Health), highlighting the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy lifestyle.
  • It also organized a post-run cleanliness drive along the route, reinforcing the message of civic responsibility and collective action.

Fit India Freedom Run

  • Launched in – 2020 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports,
  • Commemoration to – Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti.
  • Aim – To encourage citizens to adopt an active lifestyle.

United Nations Day

  • Observed on – 24th October.
  • Commemoration to – The anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter.
  • Ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including 5 permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.
