History, Art and Culture

Mata Vaishno Devi Temple

Recently, landslides occurred on the route to the Mata Vaishno Devi temple.

  • Located in – Trikuta Mountains near the town of Katra, J&K.
  • Built by – Pandit Sridhar, about 700 years ago.
  • Managed by – Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board since 1986.
  • Hindu mythology – Mata Vaishno Devi is believed to be an incarnation of the Goddess Mahalakshmi, Mahakali, and Maha Saraswati.

Nuakhai Festival

  • "Nuakhai" means "eating the new crop”.
  • Celebrated to – Appease Maa Samaleswari, the presiding deity by offering the 1st crop of an early variety of paddy and receiving blessings for a bountiful harvest.
  • Observed annually on – 5th day of the full moon in the Odia calendar month of ‘Bhadraba'.
  • Celebrated in – Western Odisha.

Environment

Convention on Nuclear Safety (CNS)

  • CNS – It is an ‘incentive’ convention prioritizing consensus and participation, provides for ‘Meetings of the Contracting Parties’.
  • Adopted in – 1994, entered into force in 1996.
  • Launched by – International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
  • Aim – To achieve and maintain a high level of nuclear safety worldwide.
  • Parties – 98, including one regional organization, the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM), and Signatory States.
  • 6 signatory states – Algeria, Israel, Monaco, Nicaragua, Philippines and Sudan.
  • India is a contracting party to CNS.

Security

Exercise Bright Star 2025

Armed Forces & Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff are set to participate in the ‘Bright Star 2025’.

  • It is the largest Tri-Service multilateral exercise in the region, held biannually.
  • Hosted by – Egypt, in conjunction with the US since 1980.

MILMEDICON-2025

  • It is a “International Conference on Physical and Mental Trauma in Military Settings”.
  • Organised by – Directorate General of Medical Services (Army), Ministry of Defence.
  • Aim – To advance military medicine through global partnerships, cutting-edge research and a deep respect for the legacy of service.

Science

BioE3 Challenge for Youth

  • Announced on – 1st of every month beginning October 2025.
  • Launched by – Ministry of Science & Technology.
  • Theme – “Design Microbes, Molecules & More”.
  • Aim – To design safe-by-default biological solutions addressing challenges in health, agriculture, environment, and industry.
  • Cash award – Rs.1 lakh each for top 10 winning solutions.
  • Funding – Up to Rs.25 lakh for 100 selected awardees, through Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).

Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC)

  • Launched in – 2012, by Department of Biotechnology (DBT).
  • Aim – To Stimulate, foster and enhance the strategic research and innovation capabilities of the Indian biotech industry.

ALLY Adaptive Cataract Treatment System

Recently, Army Hospital Research and Referral (AHRR), became the 1st government institute in India perform robotic custom laser cataract surgery using ALLY Adaptive Cataract Treatment System.

  • It is the 1st platform to combine world class imaging and next generation dual-pulse femtosecond laser in a single system.
  • Technique – Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS).
  • Integration of – Robotic intelligence and precision with surgeon expertise.
  • Significance –It will provide premium cataract experiences with optimal treatment outcomes and efficiencies to more patients.

Cataracts

  • Cataracts are cloudy areas that form on the lens of your eye.
  • Formation – Lens of eye is a clear, flexible structure made mostly of proteins.
  • As you get older, the proteins in your lens break down, forming cloudy patches that affect your vision.
  • Symptoms – Vision that’s cloudy, blurry, foggy or filmy.
  • Changes in the way you see colour, may look faded or not as vivid.
  • Sensitivity to bright sunlight, headlights or lamps.

Miscellaneous

Mail and Parcel Optimization Project (MPOP)

  • Initiative by – Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications.
  • Modified system – Currently, all types of parcels and all weight categories of parcel can be booked and delivered through Branch Post Offices in rural areas.
  • Post Office Regulation of 2024 – All parcels are now classified as accountable articles to enhance the tracking services.
  • Objectives – To modernize and streamline mail and parcel operations.
  • To integrate advanced technologies such as parcel sorters and real-time tracking systems.
