  • Founder of Bengaluru – Founded in 1537, creating a lasting legacy for the city.

  • Built Bengaluru Fort and Bengaluru Pete (market town), shaping the city's enduring foundation.

  • Social Reforms – Abolished the custom of amputating two fingers of unmarried women during Bandi Devaru.

Geography

Suji River

A landslide in Arunachal blocked the Siji river, forming an artificial lake and prompting flash‑flood alerts downstream in Assam.

  • Location – It is a tributary of the Dhansiri River in Assam.

  • Name – It also Known as Sijijan River in Arunachal; becomes Gai River (Gai Nadi) in Assam.

  • Originates in – Lower Siang district, Arunachal Pradesh, flows into Dhemaji district, Assam.

  • Vulnerability – Prone to flash floods, landslides, and debris blockages during monsoon.

    • Due to rugged terrain and heavy rainfall.

Supreme Court Collegium

Justice P. S. Narasimha is set to become a member of the Supreme Court Collegium following Justice J. K. Maheshwari’s retirement.

  • Established in – 1993, through a Supreme Court judgment.

  • Comprise of – 5 senior-most judges of the apex court.

  • Objective – To recommend appointments, transfers, and elevations of judges to the Supreme Court and 25 High Courts.

  • Approval – Government may return recommendations, but if reiterated by the Collegium, they are usually accepted.

International Relations and Issues

Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) Advisory Update

  • Restrictions Lifted – Indian ships and seafarers can now operate in the Strait of Hormuz and Gulf region.

    • It previously restricted after the June 13 incidents.

  • Security Advisory – Masters and crew must

    • Maintain vigilance,

    • Follow navigational warnings, and

    • Comply with Coastal State protocols.

  • Embassy Guidance – Stakeholders are asked to follow advisories issued by the Indian Embassy in Tehran.

Operation Amistad

Recently, Operation Amistad launched to offer humanitarian assistance to quake-hit Venezuela.

  • Launched by – India.

  • Mission Type – Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Relief (HADR).

  • Deployment

    • Two IAF C‑17 Globemaster aircraft.

    • 41‑member Indian Army team (60 Para Field Hospital) including 9 medical officers.

    • Relief consignment – 30 tons of supplies, 6 tons of medicines, medical equipment, and two BHISHM cube portable hospitals.

  • Objectives

    • To support search & rescue operations.

    • To provide emergency medical care and humanitarian relief.

  • Significance

    • It reflects India's commitment to global humanitarian efforts.

    • It strengthens diplomatic relations between India and Venezuela.

Seychelles’ 50th Independence Day Celebrations

An Indian Army contingent will march in Seychelles’ 50th Independence Day celebrations.

  • Occasion – Golden Jubilee of Seychelles’ Independence, observed on June 29, 2026.

  • Guest of Honour – Prime Minister of India.

  • India Participation

    • Army Contingent – 32 personnel from the Assam Regiment.

    • Navy Contingent – Indian Navy marching unit accompanied by a military band.

India’s Forex Reserves

  • Total Reserves

  • As of June 19, 2026, total reserves amounted to $672.59 billion.

  • The reserves increased by $963 million over the past week.

  • Breakdown of Reserve Components

    • Gold reserves – Increased by $4.11 billion, serving as the primary contributor to the overall rise.

    • Foreign currency assets (FCA) – Declined by $3.07 billion.

    • Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) – Decreased by $52 million to a total of $18.65 billion.

    • International Monetary Fund (IMF) reserve position – Decreased by $22 million, reaching $4.79 billion.

  • Causes

    • An increase in gold prices contributed to a higher valuation of India's foreign exchange reserves.

    • Foreign Currency Assets (FCA) declined as a result of fluctuations in the currency market and interventions by the RBI.

    • Despite minor decreases in SDR and IMF holdings, the overall reserves remain robust.
