Buddha’s Sacred Relics – 1st Ever Exposition

Holy Relics of Lord Buddha Return to India After Successful Exposition in Kalmykia, Russia.

  • Held in – The capital city of Elista.
  • Organised by – Ministry of Culture, with International Buddhist Confederation, National Museum, and Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts.
  • Objectives – To bless local devotees and conduct religious service for the predominantly Buddhist population of the region.
  • To celebrate the shared Buddhist heritage and strengthen the deep-rooted people-to-people ties between India and Russia.

Geography

Cyclone Montha

  • Cyclone Montha – It is a serious weather event developing in the Bay of Bengal, likely to affect India’s east coast with strong winds, heavy rain and storm surge.
  • Term – “Montha” was submitted by Thailand and is part of the naming list used in the North Indian Ocean region.
    • It roughly means “fragrant flower” or “beautiful flower” in Thai.
  • Naming practise – In the North Indian Ocean region, storms are named once they reach a defined intensity when they are upgraded to a “cyclonic storm” by the IMD.
  • Contribution of name list by – Member countries of the WMO/ESCAP Panel (World Meteorological Organisation/United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) on Tropical Cyclones.
  • The practice of naming helps in communication, record-keeping, and raising public awareness.

Polity & Governance

PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN)

Ministry of Women and Child Development gets award for outstanding contribution to implementation of PMJANMAN.

  • Launched by – Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
  • Implemented during – FY 2023-24 to 2025-26.
  • Aim – To improve the socio-economic status of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) by bridging gaps in health, education, and livelihoods, and by saturating PVTG communities and families with basic facilities and services.
  • It provides 11 critical interventions through 9-line Ministries/Departments, focusing on ensuring access to pucca houses, safe drinking water, road and mobile connectivity, electricity, and vocational education for individual households and habitations.

Capacity Building National Workshop for Teachers

  • Organized by – CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research (NIScPR).
  • Theme – “Communication and Dissemination of Indian Knowledge Systems”.
  • Initiative under – SVASTIK.
  • Aim – To communicate scientifically validated traditional knowledge to society.

"SVASTIK" – Scientifically Validated Societal Traditional Knowledge

  • Launched by – CSIR-NIScPR.
  • Aim – To preserve and perpetuate the practice of the appropriate tradition, instill the scientific temperament of verifying tradition scientifically, and boost public faith in our traditional knowledge and practices.
  • Working with – Various research organisations, higher education institutions, experts and NGOs, to document and disseminate content on scientifically validated Indian traditional knowledge.

International Relations and Issues

Knowledge Exchange Mission to Philippines

Union Minister leads Knowledge Exchange Mission to Philippines.

  • Facilitated by – World Bank.
  • Delegates from – Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and representatives from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana.
  • Aim – To foster knowledge exchange and sharing best practices in areas related to skills development, labour mobility, and data-driven policy frameworks.
  • Significance – It reflects the shared commitment of the Global South to collaborate on human capital development, promote mutual learning, and create pathways for equitable and sustainable growth through skills and entrepreneurship.

Dogs in Militaries Across the Globe

  • Military dogs – These are selected for roles such as explosive detection, patrol and apprehension, search and rescue, and tracking.
  • Suitability depends on – Traits such as intelligence, trainability, physical agility, endurance, and strong scenting abilities.
  • The US military, for example, primarily breeds and trains Belgian Malinois. Below are the most commonly utilised breeds, based on current practices:

World Osteoporosis Day 2025

  • Annually observed on – 20th October.
  • Started in – 1996, by United Kingdom's National Osteoporosis Society with European Commission.
  • Later on, in 1997 International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) organized World Osteoporosis Day (WOD).
  • Theme 2025 – "It’s Unacceptable!".
    • It underscores a global urgent need to address the treatment and prevention gaps in osteoporosis care,
    • Mobilizing action from individuals, healthcare systems, and policymakers to prevent fractures and improve bone health.
  • Aim – To promote awareness of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease.

Osteoporosis

  • Osteoporosis – It is a medical condition in which bones become very weak and brittle.
    • The bone becomes so fragile that a fracture can occur with a minor fall, bump or sudden movement.
  • Symptoms – Usually, it doesn't show any symptoms unless the fracture happens.
    • Because of the asymptomatic nature of this bone disorder, it is essential to look after bone health to prevent complications related to bone fractures.
  • Occurrence – It is one of the most common causes of fractures in the elderly.
  • Global estimate – 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men aged 50 years suffer from an osteoporotic fracture.
    • Its prevalence in elderly female has been noticed more; after 5-7 years of menopause, they tend to lose their bone density by 20%.

Police Commemoration Day

  • This is day is observed as Martyr's Day in all police forces of India.
  • Annually observed on – 21st October.
  • Started in – 1962, by DGsP/IGsP Conference.
  • Commemorates to – The sacrifices of 10 policemen who sacrificed their life while defending our borders with China in 1959.
