Birth Anniversary of Mahamana Malaviya

Vice President releases final series of ‘The Collected Works of Madan Mohan Malaviya’ on the birth anniversary of Mahamana Malaviya.

  • He was an Indian educationist and freedom fighter, and served 3 terms as president of the Indian National Congress.
  • Born on – 25th December 1861 in Prayagraj and died on 12th November 1946.
  • Honoured as – 'Mahamana' by Mahatma Gandhi.
  • Founded – Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi in 1916.
    • Hindu Mahasabha, formed in India in 1915, was co-founded by Madan Mohan Malaviya.
  • Established – The English-language newspaper “The Leader” and Hindi Newspaper "Maryada" (1910).
  • Awards – Posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2014.

‘Veer Baal Diwas’

  • Observed annually on – 26th December.
  • Started in – 2022, by Prime Minister.
  • Objective – To Commemorate the martyrdom of Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji, the sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, whose unparalleled sacrifice continues to inspire generations.

Next-Generation Quality Reforms

  • It is a comprehensive set of next-generation system-wide quality reforms, announced on the eve of Sushasan Divas 2025.
  • Announced by – Quality Council of India (QCI).
  • Objectives – To power the quality ecosystem include the unveiling of the Q Mark – Desh ka Haq, a QR-coded Mark of Quality to enable citizens to know their laboratory, hospital and MSME, ensuring full disclosure and eliminating fake certificates.
  • To have a transformative impact across sectors such as healthcare, laboratories, MSMEs and manufacturing.
  • Significance – It strengthens India’s quality ecosystem and advance the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.

‘Anti-Terror Conference’

  • A platform for brainstorming India's next-generation strategies to counter emerging threats.
  • Organized by – National Investigation Agency, Ministry of Home Affairs.
  • Objectives –
  • To share experiences and good practices across law enforcement agencies in addressing counter-terrorism (CT) issues and lessons from terror investigations.
  • To focus 0n developing synergies among various stake holders by establishing formal and informal channels for coordinated action against the menace of terrorism.

Samudra Pratap (Yard 1267)

  • It is the 1st indigenously designed and built Pollution Control Vessel of the Indian Coast Guard.
  • It is the largest ship in the ICG fleet, significantly enhancing the Coast Guard’s operational reach and capability.
  • Features –
    • Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including a 30mm CRN-91 gun, two 12.7mm stabilised remote-controlled guns with integrated fire control systems.
    • An indigenously developed Integrated Bridge System.
    • Integrated Platform Management System.
    • Automated Power Management System, and a high-capacity external firefighting system.
    • 1st ICG ship to be equipped with Dynamic Positioning capability (DP-1), with FiFi-2 / FFV-2 notation certificate.
    • Advanced systems to detect oil spills viz Oil finger printing machine.
    • Gyro stabilized Standoff Active Chemical Detector and PC lab equipment enabling comprehensive pollution response operations within the Exclusive Economic Zone and beyond.
    • It is capable of high precision operations, recover pollutants from viscous oil, analyse contaminants, and separate oil from contaminated water.

Nationwide Sample Collection and Testing

  • MoU signed between – National Test House (NTH), Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, and Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications.
  • Aim – To facilitate nationwide collection of samples and their safe, reliable, and timely delivery to NTH laboratories for testing.
  • Significance – This strategic collaboration will significantly enhance the accessibility, affordability, and efficiency of NTH’s testing services by addressing logistical challenges and reducing turnaround time.

  • Observed annually on – 25th December.
  • Objective – To commemorate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, whose leadership emphasised accountability, transparency, and inclusive growth.
  • Note – According to the United Nations, “Good governance is participatory, consensus oriented, accountable, transparent, responsive, effective and efficient, equitable and inclusive, and follows the rule of law”.
