Ministers Launch Skill India Centre

Union Minister of Railways & Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship inaugurated the Skill India Centre (SIC).

  • Venue – Baraut, Baghpat, UP.
  • Collaboration for Rural Skilling - National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Redington Foundation established the centre to expand last-mile skilling access.
  • Aims to - Train 600 underprivileged youth and women from Baraut and Chhaprauli blocks in fast-growing electronics and IT-ITeS skills.
  • Focus on Future-Ready Workforce - With digital demands & highlights the skilling's role in dignity and nation-building.
  • Tangible Impact - The centre strengthens Uttar Pradesh's inclusive skilling ecosystem. 72 candidates from Baghpat, previously trained under the partnership, have already secured placements.

New Executive Chairman for National Legal Services Authority (NALSA)

Justice Vikram Nath has been appointed as the new Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).

  • NALSA Established - Under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987.
  • NALSA's core role - Is to ensure free and competent legal aid to economically weaker and vulnerable sections.
  • Leadership Structure - The CJI serves as the Patron-in-Chief of NALSA, highlighting its judicial significance and authority.
  • Key Functions - NALSA provides free legal representation, conducts Lok Adalats (for swift dispute settlement), and runs essential legal literacy campaigns.
  •  Expanding Outreach - Justice Nath's leadership is anticipated to enhance alternative dispute resolution and expand NALSA's network to deliver accessible justice to marginalized communities nationwide.

Global Donor Ranking

In 2025, the UAE emerged as the world's 3rd -largest humanitarian donor, as confirmed by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA).

  • Total Contribution - The UAE contributed a substantial $1.46 billion in humanitarian aid during the year.
  • Share of Global Aid - This significant contribution represented 7.2% of the total global humanitarian aid tracked by the UN, which amounted to $20.28 billion.
  • Key Beneficiaries - Major recipients of the UAE’s financial assistance included nations in crisis such as Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, and Afghanistan.
  • Scope of Relief - The aid provided crucial support, covering both immediate relief (food, medicine) and long-term development in sectors like healthcare, education, and infrastructure.

 International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

 It is observed annually on November 25th.

  • Significance - The date was chosen to honor the Mirabal sisters, three political activists from the Dominican Republic who were brutally assassinated in 1960 on the orders of the country's ruler, Rafael Trujillo.

India Energy Week (IEW) 2026

IEW 2026, the 4th edition, is India's flagship energy conference, patronized by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

  • Dates & Location - It will be held from January 27–30, 2026, in Goa at the ONGC – Advanced Training Institute.
  • Organized by - Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI) and dmg events, the event expects over 75,000 professionals and 700+ exhibitors.

Record Foodgrain Output

India’s total foodgrain production hit a record 357.73 million tonnes in 2024-25, a significant rise from 332.30 million tonnes in 2023-24.

  • Cereal Highs - Rice (150.18 million tonnes) and wheat (117.95 million tonnes) both achieved new record production highs.
  • Pulses & Oilseeds - Total pulses reached 25.68 million tonnes. Oilseed production was 42.99 million tonnes, including high output from soybean and groundnut.
  • Coarse Grains - Production for maize was 43.41 million tonnes and millet ('Shri Anna') reached 18.59 million tonnes.
  • Commercial Crops- Sugarcane production stood at 454.61 million tonnes, while cotton was 29.72 million bales.

Observed Migration

Scientists in Visakhapatnam documented yearly night flights of pond herons and cattle egrets traveling from the northeast to the southwest.

  • Historical Records - Similar seasonal disappearances and southward flights were first noted in the 1980s by naturalist V. Santharam in Chennai and Puducherry.
  • Common Name - This bird, formally named Ardeola grayii, is also widely known as the Indian pond heron or the paddy bird.
  • Habitat - It belongs to the family Ardeidae and typically lives in wetlands, ponds, paddy fields, and areas near human settlements.
  • Conservation Status - The species is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List and is protected under Schedule IV of India's Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

INS Mahe

Indian Navy will commission INS Mahe, the first of the Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at Naval Dockyard, Mumbai.

  • Indigenous Build - Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, the vessel boasts over 80% indigenous content, aligning with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative and marking a major naval self-reliance milestone.
  • Operational Role - Conceived as a "Silent Hunter" for the Western Seaboard, Mahe will detect and neutralize submarines, patrol coasts, and secure vital sea approaches in littoral zones.
