S L Bhyrappa

Prime Minister condoles the passing of Shri S.L. Bhyrappa.

  • He was a well-known Kannada author, novelist, and cultural activist.
  • Born in – 1931 at Santeshivara, Karnataka
  • Literary works – Gruhabhanga, Parva, Aavarana, Nayi Neralu and 21 others.
    • First novel – Bheemakaya, 1958.
    • Last novel – Uttarakaanda, 2017.
  • Awards – Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, Saraswati Samman award, Sahitya Akademi award and Pampa award.

National Exhibition of Art

President of India graces the award ceremony of the 64th National Exhibition of Art.

  • It is prestigious annual event of the Lalit Kala Akademi.
  • Started in – 1955
  • Aim – To showcases a rich collection of exceptional artworks from across the country, created in diverse mediums.

Social Issues

Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan National Competition

  • Launched by – Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
  • Aim – To identify and nurture young advocates for a drug-free India, culminating in a platform to interact with dignitaries at the national event.
  • 3-tier process – An online quiz, essay writing, and elocution/group discussion.

Polity & Governance

Expansion of Medical Education

Recently, Union Cabinet has approved Phase-III of the Centrally Sponsored Scheme to expand country’s medical education capacity for PG, UG courses.

  • Guidelines & implementation by – Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoH&FW).
  • AimTo promote balanced regional distribution of healthcare resources, while being cost-effective by leveraging existing infrastructure.
  • Target –
    • To increase 5,000 PG seats and 5,023 UG seats in government institutions by 2028-2029.
    • To address the growing requirement of teaching personnel and meeting the academic and professional standards.

Science

Artemis II

NASA agency’s Artemis II is on track for launch in April and could potentially be moved up to February.

  • Artemis – It is NASA's campaign to explore the Moon for scientific discovery, technology, and to prepare for Mars missions, aiming for long-term lunar presence.
  • Artemis II builds on the success of the uncrewed Artemis I in 2022.
  • Mission duration – 10 days
  • Test flight – NASA’s 1st mission with crew aboard the SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and Orion spacecraft will venture around the Moon.
  • Crew members – Reid Wiseman (mission commander), Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen.

NASA’s SLS (Space Launch System)

  • SLS – It is a super heavy-lift rocket that provides the foundation for human exploration beyond Earth orbit.
  • It is the only rocket that can send NASA’s Orion spacecraft, 4   astronauts, and large cargo directly to the Moon on a single launch.
  • Built by – Boeing and Northrop Grumman.

Orion capsule

  • It will ride atop the giant, 322-foot-tall (98 m) SLS rocket.
  • Launch from – NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
  • Built by – Lockheed Martin.
  • Aim – To serve as the exploration vehicle that will carry and sustain the crew on Artemis missions to the Moon and return them safely to Earth.

8th Annual Contractors Meeting 2025 of International Seabed Authority

  • Organised by – CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa.
  • Hosted by – Ministry of Earth Science
  • Objective – To bring together leading experts and delegates form exploration contractors to discuss the future of deep-sea exploration and resource management.

 Miscellaneous

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)

Union Government sanctioned the release of 25 lakh additional LPG connections during the ongoing financial year (2025-26).

  • Launched in – 2016, by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
  • Aim – To provide LPG connections to women from poor households without having to pay for installation, first refill, hose, regulator and stove.

World Maritime Day

  • Celebrated annually on – 25th September
  • Theme 2025 – "Our Ocean, Our Obligation, Our Opportunity".
  • It emphasizes the link to wider global efforts to protect the ocean including the conclusion of UN Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement)
  • Objectives – To provide an opportunity to focus attention on the importance of shipping and other maritime activities.
  • To emphasize a particular aspect of the work of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
