Savitribai Phule

  • She is a dalit woman from the Mali community.

  • Born in – Naigaon village, Maharashtra.

  • Contributions –

    • 1st Indian woman teacher.

    • Started country’s 1st girls’ school along with her husband Jyotirao Phule in Pune, 1848.

    • Founded the Balhatya Pratibandhak Griha (India's 1st shelter home to prevent female infanticide)

  • Literary works – Kavya Phule (‘Poetry’s Blossoms’)

  • Tribute – January 3 is observed as Women's Education Day, in honour of Savitribai Phule.

Periyar River

Recently, Kerala High Court has stressed the need to monitor the cleanliness of the Periyar river.

  • It is longest river in Kerala (244 kilometers).

  • OriginSivagiri Hills, Western Ghats (at 1830m. elevation).

  • MouthArabian Sea (mostly empties into Vembanad Lake).

  • Flows through – Periyar Tiger Reserve.

Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI)

Recently IWAI celebrated the International Day of Yoga on the Brahmaputra River across different locations in Assam.

  • KVIC is a statutory body, to establish separate organizations to carry out its related activities.

  • Objectives –

    • To generate employment opportunities and self-reliance.

Recently, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) participated yoga day celebrations through Yoga Sangam 2026.

INS Dunagiri recently commissioned into Indian navy.

  • INS Dunagiri – Indigenously built Project 17A Nilgiri-class stealth guided-missile frigate.

  • Named after – Mountain peak in the Himalayas.

  • Anti-Ship Weaponry – 8 BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles (Vertical Launch).

  • Feature – Radar-absorbent hull geometry that reduces its radar cross-section.

INS Agray

INS Agray recently commissioned into Indian navy.

  • INS Agray – Fourth of the Arnala-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft.

  • Commissioned in – June 2026, into Indian Navy.

  • Constructed by – Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers.

  • Powered by3 marine diesel engines utilizing advanced waterjet/pump-jet propulsion.

  • Speed – 25 knots (46 km/h)

  • Equipped with

    • Lightweight torpedoes.

    • Indigenous rocket launchers.

    • Shallow-water sonar systems (detect and engage underwater threats in littoral waters).

INS Sanshodhak

INS Sanshodhak recently commissioned into Indian navy.
