Gen Z–Themed Post Office

Recently, the 2nd campus Post Office to be transformed under the nationwide initiative to connect more deeply with Generation Z.

  • Inaugurated by – Indian Post, Ministry of Communication.
  • Part of – A larger initiative that covers 46 existing Post Offices in educational institutions to be revamped by January 2026.
  • Aim – To re-imagine Post Offices as vibrant, student-centric, technology-enabled spaces that resonate with young citizens.
  • Modern features
    • Free Wi-Fi access,
    • Dedicated student service counters,
    • Parcel packing services,
    • Discounted Speed Post document services make the facility more contemporary and accessible.

Economy

Aluminium Imports

FIMI, has urged the government to increase the basic customs duty on primary aluminium and products made from it to 15%.

  • Import to India – In recent years, there has been a surge from China, Russia, ASEAN nations and the Middle East.
  • It reflects that even though India has enough capacity to produce aluminium domestically, about 55% of its demand in 2026 is expected to be met through imports.
  • Reason for increasing the duty –
    • To counter the sharp rise in aluminium imports.
    • To protect domestic manufacturing industries.
    • To reverse the “declining domestic market share.

Agriculture

World Fisheries Day

  • Celebrated annually on – 21th November.
  • Objectives – To highlight the importance of sustainable stocks of fisheries in the world.
  • To strengthen human rights for the small-scale fishing communities.
  • Key highlights –
    • India is the 2nd largest fish-producing country and one of the largest shrimp producers in the World.
    • India’s fish production has more than doubled from 96 lakh tonnes in 2013–14 to 195 lakh tonnes in 2024–25.
    • GST on key fish products has been reduced from 12 % to 5 %, making value-added seafood more affordable at home and strengthening India’s export competitiveness.

Environment

Cheetah Mukhi

Indian-born Cheetah Mukhi, aged 33 months gives birth to 5 Cubs.

  • This event is the 1st instance in recent history of an Indian-born Cheetah successfully reproducing.
  • It reflects strong signs of adaptation, health, and long-term viability of the species within Indian habitats.
  • Significance – This event reinforces optimism about establishing a self-sustaining and genetically diverse cheetah population in India.

Security

7th Colombo Security Conclave NSA meet

  • Held in – New Delhi
  • Hosted by – National Security Adviser (NSA).
  • Objectives – To make a comprehensive review of the security situation in the Indian Ocean Region.
  •  To focus on cooperation under 5 pillars –
    • Maritime safety and security,
    • Countering terrorism and radicalisation,
    • Combating trafficking and transnational organised crime,
    • Cyber security and protection of critical infrastructure and technology,
    • Humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
  • To enhance cooperation through training and capacity building.
  • 1st time – Malaysian team that participated as a guest country.

SWAVLAMBAN 2025

  • It is the 4th edition of Indian Navy’s Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO) Seminar.
  • Conducted in – New Delhi.
  • Theme – ‘Strength and Power through Innovation and Indigenisation’.
  • Aim – To bring together innovators, industry partners, academia, MSMEs and Start-ups, enabling them to collaborate, deliberate, and contribute towards shaping future naval capability development.

Bilateral Technical Agreement

  • Signed between – Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) and Directorate General of Armaments (DGA), France.
  • Objectives  
    • To leverage the combined expertise and resources of both nations/entities to develop innovative solutions for future defence challenges.
    • It provides a formal framework for joint research and training programs, testing activities, exchange of information, organisation of workshops, seminars etc.
    • To enhance the skill and knowledge in defence R&D.
  • Key areas of cooperation
    • Aeronautical platforms, Unmanned vehicles, and Advanced Materials for defence applications.
    • Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Space & Navigation.
    • Advanced Propulsion, Advanced Sensors, Quantum Technologies, Underwater Technologies and other areas of mutual interest.

Science

2nd Regional Open Digital Health Summit (RODHS) 2025

  • Held in – New Delhi.
  • Organised by – National e-Governance Division (NeGD) under the Ministry of Electronics & IT, National Health Authority (NHA), WHO South-East Asia Regional Office and UNICEF.
  • Participants – Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal, and Maldives.
  • Aim – To explore Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), open standards, and technologies like Generative AI can boost Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and regional health systems.

Miscellaneous

4th World Statistics Day

  • Observed every 5 years on – 20th October.
  • Started in – 2010, by United Nation General Assembly (UNGA).
  • Theme – "Quality statistics and data for everyone".
  • Aim – To acknowledge that the production of reliable, timely statistics and indicators of countries’ progress is indispensable for informed policy decisions.

75th Anniversary of the National Sample Survey (NSS)

  • Held at – Udaipur.
  • Organised by – Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
  • Observance with – World Statistics Day.
  • Aim – To recognised the contribution of generations of field staff, statisticians and institutional partners who have upheld the integrity and credibility of the NSS over 75 years.
