Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2025

  • It is one of Asia’s most prestigious film festivals.
  • Recognised by – FIAPF with International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and Cannes Film Festival.

India in BIFF 2025

India to Showcase its Creative Prowess at Busan International Film Festival 2025 in South Korea.

  • It is 1st ever Ministerial delegation from India to BIFF.
  • Aim – To strengthen cultural diplomacy, expand creative collaborations internationally, and position India as a global hub of the Creative Economy.

International Federation of Film Producers' Associations (FIAPF)

  • It is a global representation of 37 producers’ organisations from 30 countries
  • Created in – 1933.
  • Headquartered in – Brussels, Belgium.
  • Aim – To operate as a platform of expertise and share of information related to film industry.

International Film Festival of India (IFFI)

  • It is the only film festival in South Asia that is accredited by International Federation of Film Producers' Associations (FIAPF).
  • Organized annually by – National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, with Entertainment Society of Goa.

Right to Mental Health

  • Supreme Court’s verdict in – Sukdeb Saha vs The State Of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Article 21 – Mental health is an integral part of the right to life.

Saha Guidelines

  • It is introduced by the supreme Court as a package of binding interim orders.
  • Guidelines
    • Mental health support system – It mandates schools, colleges, hostels and coaching institutes are required to proactively develop support systems to address the issue of mental health.
    • District-level monitoring committees – It instruct States and Union Territories to bring the rules into force in 2 months and obligate the setting up of district-level monitoring committees.
    • Legislative power – Until Parliament passes a full code, these guidelines will have legislative force.

SC on Anticipatory Bail in Caste Crime

The Supreme Court reaffirmed that Section 18 of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, bars anticipatory bail and mini-trail.

  • SC quashed – Bombay HC's anticipatory bail order, upholding Section 18 of the SC/ST Act, 1989 in Kiran vs Rajkumar Jivaraj Jain (2025).
  • Section 18 – Categorically excludes application of Section 438 CrPC (anticipatory bail) for offences under the Act.
  • Legislative Intent – Protect victims from intimidation, ensure effective prosecution, address systemic untouchability and caste discrimination.
  • "Mini-trial" Barred – Courts should not conduct a "mini-trial" at the bail stage and only examine if a prima facie case exists based on FIR.
