Geography

Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary

  • Situated in – Bargarh district, Odisha.
  • Located near – Hirakud Dam, the longest dam in India and the longest earthen dam in the world on the Mahanadi River.
  • Declared as – A wildlife sanctuary in 1985.
  • Vegetation – Mixed and dry deciduous forest.
  • Flora – Sal, Asana, Bija, Aanla, Dhaura, etc.
  • Fauna – Indian leopards, sloth bears, chousingha (four-horned antelope), sambar deer, gaurs (Indian bison), wild boars, and Indian wild dogs etc.
  • Wintering grounds of migratory birds that visit the sanctuary from far off places. Eg - Crested serpent eagle, Flower Peckers, red vented bulbul, tree pie, drongo and white eye oriental etc.

Social Issues

Guidelines for 'Development of Homestays in Tribal Areas'

  • Formulated by – Ministry of Tourism.
  • Sub-scheme of – Swadesh Darshan under Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PMJUGA).
  • Objectives – To develop homestays in tribal areas to promote responsible tourism and enhance livelihood opportunities for tribal communities.
  • To encourage the stakeholders to adopt sustainable tourism practices in the tribal villages.
  • Financial assistance –
    • Up to ₹5 lakh for village community requirements,
    • Up to ₹5 lakh for the construction of two new rooms for each household,
    • Up to ₹3 lakh for the renovation of existing rooms for each household.
  • Mudra Loans – Government announced collateral free institutional credit for Homestays (Budget 2025-26).

Preservation of Tribal Identity and Collective Rights

  • Forest Rights Act, 2006 – To undo the historical injustices faced by Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers due to the long-standing non-recognition of their rights over forest lands and resources.
  • Section 3(1)(i) of the Act – Explicitly provides for the “rights to protect, regenerate or conserve or manage any Community Forest Resource which they have been traditionally protecting and conserving for sustainable use.”
  • Ministry of Tribal Affairs –
    • Issuance of advisories to – State Governments and UT Administrations to ensure the protection and recognition of Community Forest Rights (CFRs) in the true letter and spirit of the FRA.
    • Guiding principle for – Conservation, Management, and Sustainable Use of Community Forest Resources to facilitate effective CFR governance.
  • Financial support to – State Governments under the DhartiAabaJanjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA–JGUA) for strengthening Gram Sabhas and Community Forest Resource Management Committees, including for the preparation and implementation of community-led forest management plans.

Security

Commissioning of Diving Support Craft (DSC) A20

  • It is the 1st vessel of the indigenously designed and constructed Diving Support Craft (DSC), at Kochi under the aegis of Southern Naval Command.
  • Built by – M/s Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), Kolkata.
  • Features – It offers superior stability, enhanced deck area, and improved seakeeping characteristics, and has a displacement of approximately 390 tons.
  • Designed and built in accordance with – The Naval Rules and Regulations of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
  • Testing – It underwent extensive hydrodynamic analysis and model testing at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam.

Science

Status of 5G Rollout

  • Rolled out – In all States/ UTs across the country.
  • Currently available in – 99.9% of the districts in the country.
  • Initiatives –
    • BharatNet project for providing broadband connectivity in Gram Panchayats (GPs) and villages.
    • Scheme for providing mobile services in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected areas and in Aspirational Districts.
    • 4G Saturation scheme to provide 4G mobile coverage in all uncovered villages.
    • Launch of GatiShakti Sanchar portal and RoW(Right of Way) Rules to streamline RoW permissions and clearance of installation of telecom infrastructure.
    • Time-bound permission for use of street furniture for installation of small cells and telecommunication line.
