The Supreme Court described women as the “largest minority” in India whose presence in the Parliament is steadily receding.
- Women are the largest minority in the country comprises 48.44% of the total population.
- Legal status – 106th Constitution Amendment Act, granting 33% reservation to women in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies and the Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
- Implementation – After the next Census and subsequent delimitation exercise.
- Validity – The quota will continue for 15 years and can be extended by Parliament.
- Article 15(3) – It empowers the State to make special provisions for women and children, enabling affirmative action.

Personality Rights
The Delhi High Court protected the personality rights of actor Jaya Bachchan.
- The right of an individual to control the commercial use of their name, image, likeness, or other aspects of their identity.
- It protects individuals from unauthorized commercial exploitation of their identity appealed by celebrities, public figures, and athletes.
- Components
- Right to Publicity – Prevents unauthorized commercial use of one's name, image, or likeness.
- Right to Privacy – Protects against intrusion into one's personal life.
- Legal Basis – Right to Privacy (Article 21) and common law principles of passing off and defamation.

Supreme Court Directive on Stray Dog Problem in Kerala
- Remove stray dogs from public places such as educational institutions, hospitals, bus/railway stations, sports complexes.
- Relocate dogs to designated shelters after sterilization and vaccination (ABC Rules,2023).
- Do not release removed dogs back into the same locality.
- Remove cattle and stray animals from highways to prevent accidents.
- Hospitals must maintain constant stock of anti-rabies vaccines.
- Implement effective waste management to reduce animal attraction.
- Local bodies responsible for implementation and compliance reports.
- State governments to conduct surveys and designate nodal officers for institutional premises.
- Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) to frame comprehensive SOPs.

- Awards for – Outstanding performers under the Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari 1.0 (JSJB) initiative, a flagship community-driven program under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain (JSA: CTR) campaign.
- Total awards – 100
- Cash prize –
- Top-performing districts in Category 1 are being awarded Rs. 2 crore each.
- Districts in Categories 2 are being awarded Rs. 25 lakh each.
- Districts in Categories 3 are being awarded Rs. 1 crore each.
- Best Performing State/Union Territory – Telangana, followed by Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan.

Jal Sanchay Jan Bhagidari (JSJB) Initiative
- Launched in – 2024 at Surat, Gujarat.
- Guided by – A Whole-of-Government and Whole-of-Society approach, promotes participatory stewardship and sustainable water governance at the grassroots level.
- Driven by – 3Cs mantra (Community, CSR, and Cost), it adopts an inclusive model that promotes long-term water security and resilience against water stress.
- Division – States are divided into 5 zones, and the districts are encouraged to construct a minimum of 10,000 artificial recharge and storage structures.
- This number is 3,000 for the districts in North-Eastern and Hilly States, while it is 10,000 for Municipal Corporations nationwide.
- Structures – Rooftop rainwater harvesting, as well as the rejuvenation of lakes, ponds, and stepwells.
- Collaboration – To strengthen urban water conservation efforts, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs partnered with the Ministry of Jal Shakti.
- Through this collaboration, Urban Local Bodies are motivated to construct at least 2,000 recharge structures each.

- Announced by – Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR), Ministry of Jal Shakti.
- 10 categories – Best State, Best District, Best Village Panchayat, Best Urban Local Body, Best School or College, Best Industry, Best Water User Association, Best Institution (other than school or college), Best Civil Society and Best individual for excellence in water sector.
- Category of Best State –
- 1st prize – Maharashtra.
- 2nd position – Gujarat.
- 3rd position – Haryana.

1st National Water Awards
- Launched in – 2018, by DoWR, RD & GR.
- The 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th National Water Awards were given for the years 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023.
- The awards were not given in the year 2021 due to CoVID pandemic.
- Objectives – To focus on the good work and efforts made by individuals and organisations across the country in attaining the government’s vision of a ‘Jal Samridh Bharat’.
- To create awareness among the people about the importance of water and motivating them to adopt best water usage practices.
