History, Art and Culture

Acharya Vinoba Bhave – 1st Individual Satyagrahi

  • He was non-violence freedom activist, social reformer and spiritual teacher.
  • Birth – 1895, in Gagode, Bombay Presidency (Maharashtra).
  • Disciple of – Mahatma Gandhi (joined Gandhi’s ashram in 1916 at Sabarmati, near Ahmadabad.)
  • Vinoba – “A traditional Marathi epithet signifying great respect” was conferred by Mama Phadke.
  • Founder of – Bhoodan Yajna (“Land-Gift Movement”).
  • Literary Work – Swarajya Sastra, Geeta Pravachane, Teesri Shakti etc.
  • Awards  
    • 1st recipient of the international Ramon Magsaysay Award for Community Leadership in 1958.
    • Bharat Ratna (India's highest civilian awards) posthumously in 1983.

International Conference on Gyan Bharatam

  • Launch – Gyan Bharatam Portal, a digital platform to accelerate manuscript digitisation, preservation, and public access.
  • Theme – “Reclaiming India’s Knowledge Legacy through Manuscript Heritage”.
  • Aim – To revitalise India’s unparalleled manuscript wealth.

1st World Parliament of Religions

  • The 1st formal gathering of representatives from Eastern and Western spiritual traditions lasted for 17 days.
  • Held on – 11th September 1893, in Chicago as a part of the World Columbian Exposition on the shores of Lake Michigan.

Swami Vivekananda (1863–1902)

  • Narendranath Datta was a Hindu monk, spiritual leader, preacher, and reformer in India.
  • Birth – 1863, Calcutta.
  • Disciple and successor of – Ramakrishna Paramahamsa.
  • Propagator of Vedanta philosophy – In the United States and Britain.
  • Oration in - World’s Parliament of Religions, he introduced Hinduism to America and called for religious tolerance and an end to fanaticism.

  • An apex–level autonomous institution works as a think tank.

INS Aravali Base

Indian navy to strengthen its maritime domain awareness capability with commissioning of INS Aravali at Gurugram.

  • It is a pivotal addition to the Navy’s infrastructure.
  • Named after – Aravali Mountain range.
  • Aim – To strengthen India's and the Indian Navy's Command, Control, and Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA).
  • Motto – ‘Maritime Security through Collaboration’.

Maritime Domain Awareness

  • MDA – It refers to awareness of anything pertaining to the maritime aspects which has an influence on the security, safety and economic matters.
  • Implemented by – Indian Navy with Bharat Electronics Ltd.
  • Aim – To strengthen coastal and maritime security through an integrated approach to data collation, analysis, and information sharing among multiple maritime stakeholders.
