History, Art and Culture

Babri Masjid in Ayodhya

33rd anniversary of the mosque demolition.

  • Built in – 1529, by Mir Baqi, Mughal Emperor Babar's commander.
  • Along with the mosques at Sambhal and Panipat, it was one of three mosques said to have been constructed in the 16th century upon Babur’s orders.
  • Demolition of Babri Masjid held in – 6th December 1992.
  • Supreme Court verdict in – 2019, handed over 2.77 acres of land, which was at the centre of a long legal scrutiny, to a trust for the construction of a Ram temple at the site.
  • Allotted 5 acres of land at a “prominent site” in Ayodhya for the mosque.

Social Issues

Update on National Tele Mental Health Programme

  • Tele-MANAS Mobile Application – Expanded to 10 additional regional languages like Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Odia, and Punjabi — along with the previously available languages, English and Hindi.
  • Currently operational in – 36 States/UTs with 53 Tele-MANAS cells across the country.
  • Video consultation facility – It launched to strengthen tele-mental health support services.

Dedicated Tele-MANAS cell

  • Established at – Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune.
  • Aim – To provide tele-mental health support to armed forces personnel and dependents.

Navy Day 2025

The Navy Day is being celebrated with a spectacular Operational Demonstration at Shangumugham beach in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

  • Observed annually on – 4th December.
  • Commemoration to – The Operation Trident in 1971, in which the Indian Navy sank 4 Pakistani vessels, including PNS Khaibar.
  • Aim – To recognise the achievements and role of the Indian Navy.
  • Significance – It resolve as the ‘Preferred Security Partner’ in the Indian Ocean Region, guided by MAHASAGAR initiative.

Economy

Unified Payment Interface (UPI) Global Expansion

India is in talks with approximately 8 more countries, including those in East Asia.

  • Currently accepted in 8 countries – Bhutan, Singapore, Qatar, Mauritius, Nepal, UAE, Sri Lanka, and France.
  • Advantages –
    • It permits Indian tourists to make UPI payments for transactions abroad, enhancing convenience.
    • It fosters a digital payments ecosystem and promotes financial inclusion globally.
    • It enables easier trade and remittances, potentially reducing transaction costs.

Science

National Conference on Use of AI And ML Technologies in Power Distribution Sector

  • Conducted under – Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
  • Organised by – Ministry of Power.
  • Theme – “Harnessing AI/ML for Smart, Efficient and Sustainable Power Distribution”.
  • Objectives – To promote adoption of advanced technologies like Blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), and smart home automation for enhanced power distribution management.
  •  To facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices towards achieving operational efficiency, grid reliability, and sustainability goals.

Renewal of ‘Engagement Strategy’

  • Signed between – Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and Department of Biotechnology (DBT) with Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).
  • Aim – To encompass research and development for allied technologies, such as monoclonal antibodies.
  • To enable timely and effective response to emerging health threats, contributing to the broader goals of good health and well-being
  • Significance - It aligns with national development priorities and Sustainable Development Goals.

Earlier Engagement Strategy 

  • Executed in – October 2019 for a period of 5 years.
  • Key achievements –
    • Early-stage development of vaccine candidates for Chikungunya, Coronavirus and Monkey pox.
    • Creation of shared infrastructure such as bioassay laboratory and animal facility.

NMDC Signs MoU with IIT Kanpur

  • Aim – To facilitate new initiatives in the areas of cybersecurity and promote the adoption of modern digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML), across NMDC’s operations.
  • Key areas –
    • Cybersecurity risk assessments;
    • Policy, governance and compliance support;
    • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) integration and advancement;
    • Security operations and incident response;
    • Capacity building and knowledge sharing; and
    • Joint research and innovation.
  • Significance – It strengthen our digital defences, improve operational intelligence, and build a secure and future-ready technological foundation for NMDC.”

National Mineral Development Corporation

  • It is an India’s largest iron ore producer.
  • Incorporated in – 1958 as a Government of India public enterprise.
  • Nodal ministry – Ministry of Steel.
  • Exploration of minerals – It includes copper, rock phosphate, limestone, magnesite, diamond, tungsten and beach sands amongst others in some of the most remote corners of the country.
  • Objectives –
    • To expand the operations in the areas of Mining and Mineral Processing to meet the growing demands from domestic and international Markets.
    • Achieve international standards in per capita productivity, value addition and cost effectiveness.
