Auditory Fusion vs Fusion threshold vs Masking
Auditory Fusion
Fusion threshold
Masking
when 2 sounds arrive so close together in time that the ear and brain treat them as a single event.
The smallest time gap between 2 sounds that still lets you hear them separately is called the fusion threshold.
Masking is when one sound hides another because it’s stronger or very close in time or frequency.
- Advantages – Engineers use these facts in audio compression, to process speech, and to build concert halls by spacing out or merging sounds to improve clarity and intelligibility.
