Pavilion of India

  • Participated in – 61st International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, in Venice, Italy.
  • Presented by – Ministry of Culture
  • Returns to – Venice for the 1st time since 2019, in partnership with the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre and Serendipity Arts Foundation.
  • Significance – It reflects the cultural depth of the nation at a key moment on the world stage.

Polity & Governance

All-India Workshop of Trainers (AIWOT)

  • AIWOT – It is a preparatory training programme prior to the launch of the field work of the survey on all India basis in digital mode.
  • Conducted for – National Household Income Survey (NHIS) and Annual Survey of Incorporated Service Sector Enterprises (ASISSE).
  • Organised by – National Statistics Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
  • Coverage of surveys – It covers the whole of the Indian Union except the villages in Andaman and Nicobar Islands which remain difficult to access throughout the year.
  • Significance – These two first-ever pan-India surveys mark a significant milestone in addressing long-standing data gaps.

National Household Income Survey (NHIS)

  • Conducted by – National Statistical Office (NSO) Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation.
  • Conducted for – A period of one year starting from April 2026.
  • Objectives – To provide comprehensive information on people’s living conditions and income distribution.
  • To support analysis of the relationship between income patterns, economic activity and returns to labour, capital and land, as well as inform policy decisions on universal and targeted interventions for different socio-economic groups.
  • To enable assessment of the impact of income distribution on household well-being and access to essential goods and services.

Annual Survey of Incorporated Service Sector Enterprises (ASISSE)

  • Conducted by – National Statistical Office (NSO) Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation.
  • Conducted for – A period of one year starting from April 2026.
  • Objective – To develop a comprehensive database on the corporate services sector of the country.
  • Designed to – Capture key economic characteristics such as Gross Value Added (GVA), fixed capital, capital formation, employment, and emoluments, with estimates at the State and industry levels.
  • Exclusive coverage of – The corporate segment of the service sector and follows an enterprise-based approach using the GSTN framework.

Economy

Bharat Parv 2026

  • It is a six-day national cultural and tourism festival.
  • Held from – 26th to 31st January 2026 at Red Fort, New Delhi, as part of the Republic Day celebrations.
  • Organised by – Ministry of Tourism.
  • Objectives – To highlight India’s diverse cultural heritage, encourage domestic tourism.
  • To provide a platform for artisans and States/UTs, promote tourism awareness.
  • To strengthen national integration through cultural participation.
  • Significance – It aligns with the national initiatives “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” and “Dekho Apna Desh.”

Matabari Tourism Circuit

Union Minister lays foundation stone of Rs.450 crore ‘Matabari Tourism Circuit’.

  • Located at – Narkel Kunja, Dumbur Lake.
  • Integration of – Tripura Sundari Temple, Chabimura and Dumbur Lake, positioning Tripura prominently on the global map of spiritual and eco-tourism.
  • It includes floating jetties, eco-friendly resorts, modern tourist facilities and immersive experiences rooted in local culture.
  • Opportunities – It expected to generate 4,000–5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities, with nearly 30% participation by women.
  • Significance – It aligns with the vision of ‘Developed Northeast’, ‘Local to Global’ and the ‘Act East Policy’, Tripura is being developed as a gateway to Southeast Asia.

Miniratna Category-I status to Yantra India Limited (YIL)

Defence Ministry has approved the grant of Miniratna Category-I status to Yantra India Limited (YIL).

  • YIL – It manufactures key defence products including carbon fibre and glass composites, aluminium alloys, and assembly products for ammunition, armoured vehicles, artillery guns and main battle tanks.
  • Growth Catalyst – With Miniratna-I status, the YIL Board can now incur capital expenditure up to 500 crore rupees without government approval, enabling faster modernisation and growth.

Miniratna Status

  • Eligibility – Granted to CPSEs with consistent profitability, financial stability, and operational efficiency.
  • Empowerment – It provides enhanced decision‑making authority within defined limits.
  • Autonomy – It allows greater operational independence while staying within specified thresholds.
  • 2 sub-categories –
  • Miniratna-I
    • CPSEs with profits for 3 consecutive years.
    • At least one year showing pre-tax profit above Rs.30 crore.
    • Must maintain a positive net worth.
    • Reflects strong financial performance and capable management.
  • Miniratna-II
    • CPSEs with continuous profits for the last 3 years.
    • Must maintain a positive net worth.
    • Highlights financial resilience and operational excellence.
  • Additional Requirements –
    • No defaults on loans or interest payments to the government.
    • Operate without government guarantees or budgetary support.

Operation Sahyadri Checkmate

  • Operation launched by – Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI).
  • Objective – To dismantle a clandestine mobile mephedrone manufacturing laboratory in the remote hinterland of the Sahyadri ranges.

Mephedrone (4-methylmethcathinone)

  • Mephedrone is a New Psychoactive Substance (NPS), a drug that has been designed to produce effects similar to those of established illicit drugs.
  • Classified under – Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
  • Despite its ban in India, recent investigations highlight its continued production and distribution.
  • Effects –
    • It is an empathogen-stimulant drug, which means it speeds up the messages travelling between the brain and body.
    • It increases an individual’s feeling of empathy and kindness and enhances feelings of being socially accepted and connected to others.

Rescue and Road Restoration Operation under Project Sampark

  • Held at – Chatergala Pass situated at an altitude of 10,500 ft. in the Bhaderwah–Chatergala axis in Jammu region of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Carried out by – Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
  • Causes – Disrupted due to heavy snow fall.
  • Significance – It reaffirms the motto – ‘Shramena Sarvam Sadhyam’.
