Why in News?
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj will highlight the SVAMITVA Scheme in its tableau for the 77th Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
SVAMITVA – Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas.
Aim – It is a Central Sector Scheme aimed at establishing clear property ownership in rural inhabited (Abadi) areas using drone and GIS technology.
Launched on - National Panchayati Raj Day, 24th April 2021.

The State Revenue Department for land record management.
The Survey of India for technical mapping, surveying and GIS support.
Coverage- Implemented across all States and Union Territories.
Objectives – Creation of accurate land records - Helps rural planning and reduces property disputes.
Financial stability - Enables rural citizens to use property as a financial asset for loans and benefits.
Property tax assessment – Facilitates easier and accurate tax determination by Panchayats/local bodies.
Village planning - To support the preparation of a better-quality Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) by making use of GIS maps.
Key Components – CORS (Continuous Operating Reference System) – It is aGeo-positioning infrastructure usable by multiple government departments.
These stations are to provide 5 cm level accuracy by replacing chain surveys.
"Gram Manchitra" Enhancement – Improves the spatial planning application by using drone survey data to develop tools for Gram Panchayat Development Plans.
Mapping – It involvesDrone-based mapping of land parcels.
Project Management – Sets up Program Management Units at the national and state levels for implementation oversight.
Property Card Preparation – Issuance of Property Cards/Title Deeds with Record of Rights.
International Recognition -SVAMITVA has been recognized by the UN and World Bank as a best practice in land governance and digital mapping.
