Geography

Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal

Punjab, Haryana agree on solution talks over Sutlej-Yamuna canal.

  • Runs about 121 km in Punjab and 90 km in Haryana.
  • Million Acre-Feet (MAF) – It conveys 3.45 MAF out of 3.5 MAF of Haryana’s average annual share of surplus Ravi-Beas waters (as per 1981 agreement).
  • Irrigation – An area of 4.46 lakh ha. in Haryana and also benefit Punjab in terms of irrigation to an area of 1.28 lakh ha. in irrigation.
  • Power capacity – A total of 50 MW of power generation at two power houses.

Mausamgram – (Har Har Mausam, Har Ghar Mausam)

  • A unique citizen-focused platform providing hyperlocal, location-specific weather forecasts down to the village level.
  • Aim – To ensures that users across India receive accurate and timely weather updates relevant to their locality.
  • Features
    • Forecasting system – It delivers hourly forecasts for the next 36 hours, 3-hourly forecasts for the next 5 days, and 6-hourly forecasts for up to ten days.
    • Citizen’s accessibility – The weather information through PIN code, location name, or by selecting their state, district, block, and gram panchayat.
    • Available in all official Indian languages.

Mission Mausam

  • It includes installation and commissioning of advanced meteorological instruments.
  • Aim – To enable severe weather hazard forecasting at a 5x5 km scale, dynamic impact-based forecasting, and risk-based early warnings for all.
  • Significance – The initiative envisions last-mile connectivity to ensure early warnings reach every household by 2030, achieving the vision of “Har Har Mausam, Har Ghar Mausam.”

Revamped Sugamya Bharat App

  • Launched by – Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
  • Developed with the support of – SBI Foundation with NAB Delhi, ISTEM, and Mission Accessibility.
  • Aim – To envision India as a digital accessibility hub, bringing information, schemes, and services directly to the fingertips of persons with disabilities.
  • Originally launched under – Accessible India Campaign (Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan).

RPF Contingent’s Theme “Operation NARCOS: RPF Against Drug Trafficking”.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) participated in the Vedanta Half Marathon 2025, held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.

  • Aim – To raise awareness among youth against drug abuse, curb drug trafficking through the railway network and contribute towards building a drug-free society.
  • Significance – It reflects its commitment to promoting physical fitness, discipline, and social responsibility among its personnel.

IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025

Kirti Vardhan Singh participates in the 'Recognition Ceremony of Forest Rangers', on the sidelines of the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025.

  • Held at – Abu Dhabi, hosted by United Arab Emirates.
  • Organized by – International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

  • Organised under – AI for Good Impact Initiative of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) with I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics (IHFC).
  • Supported by – Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications.
  • Topics covered – ‘Robotics and AI for Youth Society’,
    • ‘Digital Safety for Youth’,
    • ‘AI for Good: Unleashing AI and robotics to solve global challenges’ and
    • ‘Robotics and AI for youth-led society’.
  • Objective – To showcase the talent of young innovators developing robotics-based solutions to address food security and sustainable development.
  • Significance – It is nurturing the next generation of innovators to harness robotics and AI for advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Miscellaneous

Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan

  • He was a social reformer, Indian Independence activist, and political leader.
  • Born in – 1902, in Sitabdiara, Bihar.
  • Influenced byMarxist ideas after studying in the United States.
  • Advocated for – Independence through socialist principles and ideals of Sarvodaya, a Gandhian philosophy that emphasises progress for all.
  • Contribution -
    • He joined the Indian National Congress in 1929.
    • He participated in the civil disobedience movement and Quit India Movement.
    • He Co-founded the Congress Socialist Party
    • He Promoted the Bhoodan Gramdan Movement, (initiated by Acharya Vinoba Bhave).
    • In 1959, proposed a decentralized political structure with a four-tier system of governance – village, district, state, and union councils (Chaukhamba Raj).
    • He led the Total Revolution movement against the Emergency (1975 to 1977), and his birthday is celebrated as “Save Democracy Day” for his invaluable contribution to anti-emergency agitation during 1975-76.
  • Awarded posthumously – Bharat Ratna in 1999. 

Birth Anniversary of Nanaji Deshmukh

  • He was a social reformer and politician.
  • Born on – 11th October 1916 in Maharashtra’s Hingoli district.
  • Inspired by – Lokamanya Tilak's nationalist ideology and Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, the founding head of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
  • Founded – Chitrakoot Gramoday Vishwavidyalaya, India's 1st rural university, and served as its Chancellor.
  • Political life –  
    • He was instrumental in shaping the Janata Party.
    • Elected to Lok sabha in 1977 Lok Sabha.
    • Nominated to Rajya Sabha in 1999.
  • Awarded posthumously – Padma Vibhushan in 1999 and Bharat Ratna in 2019.
