National Accounts Statistics 2026

Why in News?

Recently the National Accounts Statistics – 2026 has been released.

• Released by – Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI)
• The publication uses 2022–23 as the base year and incorporates updated annual and quarterly national accounts estimates.

Key Features

• Contains 60 statements covering –
  • GDP, National Income & Per-capita income
  • Sectoral output and GVA
  • Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE) & Government FCE.
  • Savings and capital formation
  • Public-sector transactions
  • External transactions
• It also includes – Updated Provisional GDP Estimates for 2025–26
• Quarterly GDP estimates from 2022–23 to 2025–26.

New GDP Series

• The revised estimates incorporate new series of
  • Producer Price Index (PPI) – Base 2022–23
  • Index of Industrial Production (IIP) – Base 2022–23
  • Banking Services Price Index (BkSPI) – Base 2022–23
• These indicators were released during June 2026 and are aligned with international standards.

Need for GDP revision

• Updated PPI improves the mapping of price measures with economic activities.
• Revised IIP provides broader coverage of industrial items and quotations.
• BkSPI helps measure growth in the actual physical volume and transactional activity of banking services.
• Updated administrative data were also incorporated.
• These changes resulted in revisions to GDP estimates from 2022–23 onwards, at both current and constant prices.

Sector-specific Impact

• Mining & Quarrying – Affected by the revised IIP series.
• Manufacturing – Affected by expanded PPI coverage.
• Trade services – PPI used in place of WPI.
• Public Administration & Ownership of Dwellings – revisions in current-price estimates affected constant-price estimates.
