International Relations and Issues

India in United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and the Pacific (UN-GGIM-AP)

  • India elected as Co-Chair of the Regional Committee of UN-GGIM-AP.

  • India represented by – Surveyor General of India.

  • Term – 2025-2028.

  • Election conducted – During the 14th Plenary Meeting of UN-GGIM-AP.

    • Held in Goyang-si, Republic of Korea,

    • Hosted by National Geographic Information Institute (NGII), Republic of Korea.

  • Significance – It highlights growing leadership of India in the global geospatial arena and acknowledges its contribution in advancing innovation, capacity building, and regional collaboration.

UN-GGIM-AP

  • It is one of the 5 regional committees of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM).

  • It is the apex inter-governmental mechanism for making joint decisions and setting directions with regard to the production, availability and use of geospatial information within national, regional and global policy frameworks.

  • Represents – National Geospatial Information Agencies of 56 countries in Asia and the Pacific region.

  • Aim – To address global challenges regarding the use of geospatial information, including in the development agendas, to serve as a body for global policymaking in the field of geospatial information management.

India–Brazil Joint Declaration

  • Recalling the Framework Agreement signed between India and MERCOSUR.

  • Aim – To strengthen relations and promote the expansion of trade in conformity with the rules and disciplines of WTO, they agreed that:

    • Significant share of bilateral trade to benefit from tariff preferences.

    • Cover both tariff and non-tariff issues related to trade and economic partnership.

    • Active participation of the private sector and other stakeholders to support the negotiation process should be promoted.

    • Parties should endeavour to conclude the negotiations within one year from the launch of negotiations.

    • Establishment of a technical dialogue between the Parties, including the holding of a meeting of the Joint Administration Committee created under Article 23 of the PTA.

MERCOSUR

  • MERCOSUR – It is a trading bloc in Latin America comprising Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.

    • It is the 3rd largest integrated market after the European Union (EU), North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

  • Formed in – 1991.

  • Objective – To facilitating the free movement of goods, services, capital and people among the four member countries.

78th Session of the WHO Regional Committee of South-East Asia

India renews Commitment to Healthy Ageing at this Session.

  • Held in – Colombo, Sri Lanka.

  • Theme –Healthy Ageing through strengthened primary health care.”

  • India’s Commitment – To promoting Healthy Ageing through strengthened Primary Healthcare, based on a comprehensive and people-centric system for the elderly.

  • Significance – Reaffirming India’s alignment with the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030).

G20 Environment Ministers’ Meeting

Union Environment Minister represents India at the G20 Environment Ministers’ Meeting.

  • Held at – Cape Town, South Africa.

  • Theme – ‘Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability’.

  • Aim – To tread the path of building a world united in purpose, equal in right and resources, committed to the planet.

Economy

Advanced Night Vision factory

  • Established at – Nimmaluru, Andhra Pradesh by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL).

  • Objectives – To meet the demands of Armed Forces as also for Export purposes for

    • Various electro-optical devices (Advanced Night Vision Devices),

    • Infrared Seekers for various indigenously developed missiles and

    • Different types of drone guard systems for protection from rogue drones, UAV and other aerial threats.

  • Significance – It reinforces Aatmanirbharta in defence & promotes skilled employment in the region.

NMDC Steel Limited (NSL)

  • NSL – It is a 1st company in the country to receive an Indian Standards (IS) license for “Hot Rolled Steel Strip, Sheet, and Plates for Welded Steel Pipe for Pipeline Transportation Systems - General Requirements (IS 18384:2023).”

  • Presented by – Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) during the World Standards Day 2025 celebration, organized by BIS.

  • Aim – To reinforces NSL’s vision to produce world-class steel products that meet the most demanding standards of safety and performance in the petroleum and natural gas sectors.

  • Significance – It highlights NMDC Steel’s focus on technological advancement, superior product quality, and sustainable manufacturing practices.

Viksit Bharat Young Leaders’ Dialogue (VBYLD) Quiz 2026

  • VBYLD Quiz – It is the 1st stage of the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders’ Dialogue 2026.

  • Conducted through – My Bharat Portal.

  • Aim – To help young people test their knowledge about India and share their ideas for a developed India by 2047.

  • Winners – Top 10,000 winners will receive MY Bharat goodies and move to the next stage of the VBYLD 2026.

Viksit Bharat Young Leaders’ Dialogue 2026

  • VBYLD 2026 – It is a multi-track competition, which will be held in New Delhi in January 2026.

    • It brings together over 3,000 dynamic young leaders nationwide.

    • National Youth Festival 2025 was reimagined as The Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue (VBYLD).
