Why in news?
‘Kendriya Grihmantri Dakshata Padak’ award for the year 2025 is announced.
Established in –February 1, 2024.
Instituted by –Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Purpose – To recognize excellent work, promote high professional standards and boost the morale of the concerned official/officer in the 4 fields.
It also covers operations such as counter-terrorism, border action, arms control, narcotics smuggling prevention etc.
Fields of Recognition –
Special Operation,
Investigation,
Intelligence and
Forensic Science.
Eligibility – It is conferred on members of the Police Forces, Security Organizations, Intelligence Wings/Branches, CAPFs, CPOs, and Forensic Science units at the Central, State, and Union Territory levels.
No minimum period of service required.
Creation –By merging the 4 previously existing MHA awards –
The Special Operation Medal,
The Medal for Excellence in Investigation,
The Exceptional Intelligence Efficiency Medal, and
The Union Home Minister's Award for Meritorious Service.
Announcement –The recipients are announced annually on October 31, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The medal can be forfeited if awardee is dismissed/removed/major penalty imposed or found involved in criminal offence or conduct unbecoming; the Home Minister may restore it.
For 2025 –It is awarded to 1,466 personnel of various States/UTs/CAPFs/CPOs for the year 2025.
