• Prize money - The Nobel Peace Prize includes a medal, a diploma, and 11 million Swedish kronor (approximately $1.2 million).
• Given by - The selection is made by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, appointed by the Norwegian Parliament.

About the Laureate

• Background - Machado, an industrial engineer, is a key figure in Venezuela's pro-democracy movement and co-founder of the Vente Venezuela political party.
• Struggle for democracy - She has been a symbol of civilian courage and resistance against the repressive government of Nicolás Maduro, enduring threats and political persecution.
