  • He was an Indian Hindu monk, philosopher, author, religious teacher, and the chief disciple of the Indian mystic Ramakrishna.
  • He was a pivotal figure in introducing Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world.
  • He passed away in 1902 at the young age of 39.
  • He attained Mahasamadhi while meditating in his room at Belur Math, near Kolkata.
  • Vivekananda is universally celebrated for his historic 1893 address at the Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago of USA.
  • The day he delivered his speech at the Parliament of Religions (11 September) is observed as "World Brotherhood Day".
  • After returning to India from his first visit to the West, Swami Vivekananda founded the Ramakrishna Order at Belur, near Kolkata, in 1898.
