National Task Force

Why in News?

Recently, National Task Force (NTF) on Mental Health of Students and Prevention of Suicides in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), has conducted field visits.

• National Task Force – It is an expert committee to address student mental health crises, discrimination, and suicides in higher education institutions across the country.
• Constituted by – Supreme Court of India.
• Launched in – 2025.
• Equity Focus – Address concerns of students from ST, OBC, disabled, and marginalized communities.
• Interdisciplinary approach – Consultations on caste discrimination, gender and suicides, decriminalization of suicide, and engagement with NGOs and law students.

Constitutional and legal context

• Article 21 – Right to Life Personal Liberty deals with mental health, dignity, and well‑being.
• Policy Integration – Aligns with National Education Policy (NEP) goals of inclusive, supportive learning environments.
