Why in News?

Recently, the Prime Minister unveiled a national security initiative Mission aimed at protecting India’s critical establishments over the next decade through indigenous technological development.

• It is India's defence modernisation initiative, aimed at establishing a comprehensive multi-layered aerial defence shield by 2035.
  • It is similar to Israel's Iron Dome, and the United States proposed the Golden Dome.
• Need – To reinforce and improve layers of military and technological protection around critical military and civilian institutions.
• To reduce dependence on foreign defence systems and boost the domestic defence industry.
• Announced in –15 August 2025.
• Nodal Ministry – Ministry of Defence.
• Inspiration – It is inspired by Hindu mythology, the weapon of Lord Krishna, the Sudarshan chakra, symbolising a defence that can both protect and retaliate.

• Features – It encompasses
  • Multi-layered security framework,
  • Integrating advanced surveillance,
  • Cyber protection, and
  • Physical infrastructure safeguards tailored to india’s evolving threat landscape.
• It incorporates AI-enabled tracking, radar networks, cyber-defence tools, and interoperable physical systems.
• Collaboration – It will involve India’s premier research agencies, defence establishments, and private innovators.
• It will be developed with the Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS) and its multi-layered air defence systems at the core, including the Army's indigenous Akashteer network.

Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS) is an automated command and control system that integrates data from all air defence assets to detect, identify, intercept, and destroy hostile intruders.

• Importance –It reinforces national sovereignty in security architecture.
• It reflects a fusion of cultural ethos and cutting-edge innovation, positioning to meet the challenges of the next decade with resilience and technological prowess.
