Why in News?

Recently, the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) has launched an online portal titled “Investors Support”

Investor Support Portal

  • Vision – To boost investors’ confidence and streamline the domestic chip ecosystem & to address their concerns.
  • Nodal Ministry – Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
  • Features
  • Information Hub – To provide information relating to Government schemes, policies, and approved projects under the Semicon India Programme.
  • Regulatory Guidance – To provide regulatory requirements to those investors who are considering investment in India.
  • Grievance Redressal Mechanism – It will enable investors to register their grievances/concerns, which will be resolved by the officials of ISM.
  • Single-Window Interface – To provide a secure, role-based ecosystem connecting state governments, national ministries, and trade bodies.

Indian Semiconductor Mission (ISM)

  • Launched in – 2021 under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
  • Aim – To build a strong semiconductor and display ecosystem, positioning India as a global hub for electronics manufacturing & design.
  • Administration – It is a specialised and independent business division under the Digital India Corporation with administrative and financial autonomy.
  • Objective
    • To support fabs, display fabs, compound semiconductors, silicon photonics, sensors, packaging, and design‑linked incentives.
    • Provides fiscal support to companies establishing semiconductor manufacturing units in India.
    • Acts as the central authority for the smooth implementation of semiconductor and display schemes.
    • To reduce dependence on imported chips and strengthen self‑reliance under Atmanirbhar Bharat.
    • To encourage research, innovation, skill development, and partnerships with global technology firms.
  • ISM 2.0 – It was announced in the Union Budget 2026–27.
  • Objective
    • To focus on producing semiconductor equipment and materials in India,
    • Designing full-stack Indian semiconductor intellectual property, and
    • Fortifying both domestic and global supply chains.
    • Establish Industry-led research & training centres to create a future-ready skilled workforce.
