  • Released on – National Consumer Day 2025, held at New Delhi.
  • Bomb disposal systems such as bomb blankets, bomb baskets, and bomb inhibitors are commonly used to mitigate explosive threats.
  • Key Provisions of IS 19445:2025
  • A comprehensive framework for evaluating bomb disposal systems, particularly with respect to blast loads and splinter effects.
  • It specifies:
    • Requirements for test equipment and test range conditions.
    • Evaluation procedures to objectively assess system performance.
    • Defined test methodologies, apparatus, test specimens, and acceptance criteria.
    • The standard serves as a reference for test sponsors, manufacturers, and accredited testing agencies, enabling uniformity in testing, certification, and procurement practices.

Defence Materials and Stores Research & Development Establishment (DMSRDE)

  • It is a laboratory of the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), Ministry of Defence.
  • Established in – 1929.
  • Objective – To engage in research and development of non-metallic materials, including polymers, composites, elastomers, ceramics, technical textiles, fuels, lubricants and other speciality materials critical for defence applications.

  • Manufacturing – Chip fabrication techniques are employed, which enable scalable mass production.
  • Power and Reprogramming – The robot is powered by solar cells and can be reprogrammed using light signals transmitted by LEDs.
  • Capabilities – It can store memory, execute code, measure temperature, and detect warmer regions.
  • Applications – Anticipated uses include micro-sensing, environmental monitoring, and future medical applications.
  • Significance – A step towards creating functional robot swarms.
