National Workshop on ‘Project Mausam’

- Aim – To bring together superintending archaeologists and regional directors from ASI’s coastal circles, fostering a nationwide collaborative framework.

GI Tag - Ambaji Marble
Marble from Ambaji, Gujarat’s prominent pilgrimage site and Shaktipeeth, has been awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for its high-quality white stone.
- Tag name – Ambaji Marbles Quarry and Factory Association in Banaskantha district.
- Recognised for – Its pure white marble sourced from the sacred land of Ambaji.
- Temples – Ambaji’s marble mines date back 1,200–1,500 years, around the time the Dilwara Jain Temple in Mount Abu was constructed.
- Temple construction abroad, including in Miami, Los Angeles, Boston, New Zealand and England.
- Composition – Silicon oxide and calcium oxide.

- Achievement / contribution – It played a foundational role in geological mapping, mineral exploration, identification of critical and strategic minerals, geohazard studies, and advancing geoscientific research for national development.

- Nodal ministry – Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA).
- Functions and Duties
- Recommend accounting and auditing policies and standards to be adopted by companies for approval by the Central Government;
- Monitor and enforce compliance with accounting standards and auditing standards;
- Oversee the quality of service of the professions associated with ensuring compliance with such standards and suggest measures for improvement in the quality of service;
- Perform such other functions and duties as may be necessary or incidental to the aforesaid functions and duties.

Greater Flamingo Sanctuary in Dhanushkodi
A proposal to establish a wind farm in Dhanushkodi has drawn concern over possible ecological impacts on the fragile coastal ecosystem and the nearby Greater Flamingo Sanctuary.
- Proposed by – National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE) under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy,
- Aim – To set up 4 wind turbines with associated facilities and a jetty for logistics and research.
- Area Classified under – Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) categories IB, II, and IVA, has been identified as a test location for offshore wind energy research under India’s 2015 Offshore Wind Energy Policy.
- Threat & ecological impact –
- It may harm sea life and disrupt fishing jobs.
- The nearby wind farm could harm birds at the Greater Flamingo Sanctuary by causing collisions and disturbing their habitat.
- The project site overlaps with fish breeding areas and turtle nesting grounds and lies close to wetlands frequented by migratory birds such as flamingos between December and March.
