Geography

Delhi NCR registers Best Average Air Quality

  • Released by – Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
  • Period between – January and October during the current year, has registered its best average AQI (Air Quality Index) during the 8 years i.e., from 2018 to 2025 (barring 2020 – the year of lockdown due to Covid).
  • Average AQI of Delhi – In the current year has been recorded as 170 as against 184 in 2024, 172 in 2023, 187 in 2022, 179 in 2021, 156 in 2020, 192 in 2019 and 201 in 2018 respectively, during the corresponding period.
  • Report –
    • Highest number of ‘Satisfactory’ days i.e. 79 such days (barring 2020 – the year of lockdown due to Covid).
    • No single day with average AQI more than 400 (‘Severe’ or ‘Severe+’ categories).
    • Lowest levels of PM2.5 concentration (average of 72 µg/m3).
    • Lowest levels of PM10 concentration (average of 166 µg/m3).
  • Reason – From September to October, monsoon-influenced winds that are relatively stronger and carry humid air to a post-monsoon regime where winds become weaker and the air turns drier and more stable.
  • These meteorological conditions reduce pollutant dispersion and often lead to an increase in air pollution levels.

  • Conducted by – Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG).
  • Aim – To encourage dissemination and replication of the award-winning nominations under the Scheme of Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration.
  • 2 initiatives – Awarded with the PM’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration for the year 2024, under the theme ‘Aspirational Blocks programme’.

International Relations and Issues

8th Joint Working Group (JWG) Meeting on Agriculture

  • Held between – India and Netherlands.
  • Discussion about – The contribution of the Centres of Excellence (CoEs) established under bilateral collaboration, which have demonstrated advanced technologies, facilitated the production of high-quality planting material and seeds, and provided training to thousands of farmers.
  •  The success of this model has inspired efforts to scale up similar initiatives across additional states and subsectors of horticulture to benefit more farmers.

12th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting - Plus (ADMM-Plus)

  • Held in – Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
  • Objective – To expand and deepen defence relationship through military-to-military exercises and activities, information sharing, collaboration with like-minded regional and global partners, defence industrial, science and technology cooperation and defence coordination mechanisms.
  • Outcome –
  • Both signed the ‘framework for the US-India major defence partnership’ which will usher a new era in an already strong defence partnership.
  • The 2025 framework marks a new chapter to further transform the partnership over the next 10 years.

WAVES Animation Bazaar 2025

  • WAVES – World Audio Visuals Entertainment Summit.
  • It is a physical content marketplace for animation content, linking content creators with buyers and OTT platforms.
  • Inaugurated in – Hyderabad.
  • Organised with – Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
  • Objectives – To showcases India’s creative economy across films, e-sports, VFX, animation, OTT, comics, and other emerging digital entertainment sectors.
  • To empower creators to monetise their work and accelerate industry growth, this transforming craft to commerce.

8th edition of IndiaJoy 2025

  • Inaugurated in – Hyderabad.
  • Expo at India Joy – It showcased startups being incubated under the WAVEX initiative and the IPs created by winners of Create in India Challenge Season 1.
  • Aim – To provide a platform to startups and young creators and ensuring market access and exposure to young creators at prominent Media and Entertainment industry events.

India Challenge (CIC) Season 1

  • It is a precursor to the World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES).
  • This initiative served as a launchpad for the next generation of creators who are redefining India’s position in the global entertainment and technology ecosystem.
  • Aim – To provide a global platform for emerging talent and to showcase the vibrant creativity of young minds.
  • Categories – It expands from 25 to 32, which includes the Anime Challenge to the AI Film Making Competition, XR Creator Hackathon, each category encouraged innovative expression, bringing together creators, technologists, and storytellers from around the world.

2nd edition of “Udyog Bharti” Hindi Magazine

  • Released by – Minister of State for Heavy Industries.
  • Aim – To reaffirm the Ministry’s dedication to effective communication and promotion of Hindi in official work in line with the Government of India’s vision to strengthen the use of Hindi in administration.

International Day of Older Persons

  • Observed worldwide on – 1st October.
  • Aim – To honours the vital role of senior citizens and underscores society’s duty to safeguard their well-being.
    • In India – It serves to highlight progressive policies and initiatives that uphold the dignity, care, and empowerment of the elderly.
    • To ensure holistic support for senior citizens through various services, financial assistance, Elderline 14567 helpline, awareness campaigns, and intergenerational activities.
  • Key Events
    1. Planting of Tree under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’
    2. Children’s Cultural Performances by the school students.
    3. Nukkad Natak by Ashmita Group (NSD), spreading awareness on dignity and rights of senior citizens.
    4. Felicitation Ceremony of winner students of various competitions centered on the theme of Ageing with Dignity.
    5. Sankalp – Pledge administered by Union Minister of State, reaffirming collective responsibility towards elder care.
    6. Token distribution to the beneficiaries under Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY).

EPFO Foundation Day 2025

Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) celebrated its 73rd Foundation Day today at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

  • Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya National Academy of Social Security (PDUNASS) EPFO’s training and capacity-building institution was honoured with 2 Bhavishya Nidhi Awards 2025 for:
    1. Best Achievement in Capacity Building.
      • PDUNASS was recognised for its outstanding efforts in strengthening the competencies of EPFO’s workforce.
      • During 2024–25, the Academy trained 155 newly recruited Assistant Provident Fund Commissioners (APFCs) across 3 batches, focusing on functional excellence and behavioural development.
    2. Special Initiative – Reimagining Governance: Discourse for Excellence (RGDE)
      • Launched on – Good Governance Day, 2023, the RGDE series embodies PDUNASS’s commitment to institutional learning and thought leadership.
      • The platform brings together eminent figures from governance, policy, administration, art, and culture to share insights on ethical and effective public service.
  • Two innovative learning modules — “Design Thinking” (in collaboration with NID Ahmedabad) and “Compassion in Governance” (with the Satyarthi Movement for Global Compassion), were introduced to nurture creativity, empathy, and innovation among officer trainees.
  • The Academy also launched the “Book Review” and “Delicious Initiatives” programmes to foster teamwork, intellectual curiosity, and a culture of continuous learning.
