Addressing the nation on the 80th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a series of measures and highlighted the thought of Saptadhara.

What is the concept of Saptadhara highlighted by the Prime Minster?

The Prime Minister identified seven major streams that will drive India’s next phase of growth:

  • Manufacturing Power – Make India a global manufacturing and supply-chain hub.

  • Viksit Bharat 2047 – India aims to become a developed nation by the centenary of independence through high ambition, determination and collective effort.
  • Aatmanirbhar Bharat – Greater domestic capabilities, reduced dependence on imports and stronger Indian manufacturing were emphasized.
  • Economic transformation – Defence production, electronics, mobile manufacturing, digital transactions, patents and infrastructure have expanded significantly over the past decade.
  • Manufacturing – India must compete globally on cost, quality and scale, while developing complete domestic supply chains.
  • Agriculture & food processing – Focus on chemical-free farming, value addition, farm-to-export chains and making Indian agricultural products globally competitive.

  • Soft Power – Yoga, Ayurveda, tourism, culture, wildlife, sports, VFX, animation, gaming and the creative economy will strengthen India’s global influence.
  • Energy security – The address highlighted nuclear expansion, critical minerals, offshore exploration, solar energy, piped gas and hydrogen technology.
  • Youth empowerment – Start-ups, Skill India, Khelo India, AI training, education and research were positioned as central to India’s future.
  • AI skills – A major target was announced to train one crore youth in AI skills.
  • Women empowerment – The success of Lakhpati Didis and women’s participation in STEM, defence and governance was highlighted, along with the call for implementation of women's legislative reservation.
  • Social welfare – Inclusive development, Ayushman Bharat and expanded social-security coverage were highlighted as instruments to ensure that development reaches the last person.
  • Internal security – The Prime Minister highlighted the decline of Naxal violence, the need to counter extremism and the creation of a modern voluntary Civil Defence network.
  • Sports – A nationwide talent hunt for children aged 5–15, along with India’s ambitions for the 2036 Olympics, was emphasized.
  • Drug-free India – A nationwide Nasha Mukt Yuva Abhiyan was proposed as a collective effort involving families and civil society.
  • Digital Census – Citizens, especially youth, were encouraged to participate actively in the first Digital Census.
  • Global ambitions – India aims to build globally competitive companies, financial institutions, pharmaceutical firms, technology companies and professional-service firms.
