Why in News?
The National Zoological Park (Delhi Zoo) recently commenced its annual Summer Vacation Programme (SVP) 2026 at its Education Centre under Mission Life.
Mission LiFE - or Lifestyle for Environment, is an India-led global mass movement to nudge individual and community action to protect and preserve the environment.
Launched by - Indian PM at the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow in 2021.
- Aligned with - World Environment Day theme “Inspired by Nature
- Aims to – Promoting Ecological leadership among school students.
- Organized under - The Mass Mobilisation Campaign for Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) and aligns with the impending World Environment Day goals.
- Objective - To focuses on hands-on environmental education covering biodiversity conservation, climate action, wildlife protection & sustainable habitat management.
- Methodology - Moving beyond classroom circular, the programme gives importance to Practical learning.
- It uses interactive modules including guided enclosure visits (herbivore and carnivore ecologies), wildlife photography, heritage walks, and solid waste management/cleanliness drives.
Importance of Youth in Conservation
- Early Ecological awareness – Involving Students from class 6th to 12 would help integrating sustainable consumption habits, translating abstract Concept into localized action.
- Leadership & technology – Integrating modern & latest technologies into biodiversity monitoring (e.g., camera trapping tools, geospatial tracking discussions) bridges data science with natural resource management.
