Recently, Andhra Pradesh’s community-led natural farming program has won the 2026 Food Planet Prize.
- The Food Planet Prize is the world's largest environmental award focused on transforming global food systems.
- Aim - To fund innovative, scalable initiatives that can reshape how we produce, distribute, and consume food while supporting a resilient biosphere.
- Established in – 2019.
- Established by - Swedish entrepreneur and philanthropist Curt Bergfors.
- The prize was set up through the Curt Bergfors Foundation with the express conviction that human health and planetary stability are failing due to current agricultural burdens.
- The platform provides funding to accelerate solutions that can bring meaningful global impact within a 10-year timeframe.
- Prize worth - $1.5 million.
Winner, 2026 - Andhra Pradesh’s APCNF program
- It was launched in 2016 by Rythu Sadhikara Samstha, under Andhra Pradesh’s agriculture department, the programme was designed to help farmers shift to natural farming.
- Andhra Pradesh’s APCNF program got the prize for its work in promoting farming practices that reduce dependence on synthetic inputs and support climate-resilient agriculture.
- It will improve soil health, biodiversity and farm resilience while reducing input costs.
