Ministry of Ayush partners with Digital India BHASHINI Division

Why in News?

Ministry of Ayush has signed a MoU with the Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) to integrate advanced AI-powered translation and speech technologies across its digital platforms.

The Digital India BHASHINI Division (DIBD) is a government unit under the IT Ministry.

It uses Artificial Intelligence to break language barriers, making internet services, apps, and government schemes accessible to everyone in their own regional languages through simple voice commands and text.

 

About MoU

• Objective - To enable faster transcription and translation of traditional Ayush knowledge systems into multiple Indian languages using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
• Partnership is - Being executed under the initiative titled "BHASHINI Rajyam – A BHASHINI Sahayogi Program."
• Scope - Digital tools, portals, and applications under the Ayush Grid ecosystem will be made accessible in all 22 Scheduled Indian languages recognized under the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
• Core Focus Areas - Developing domain-specific multilingual terminology systems for traditional medicine.
  • Strengthening Ayush language datasets to train contextual AI healthcare models.
  • Leveraging the NAMASTE Portal (National Ayush Morbidity and Standardized Terminology Electronic Portal) for glossary-building.

Bhashini

• Digital India BHASHINI - (Behavioral Knowledge Systems for Higher Education and Innovation in Indian Languages) is India’s National Language Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI).
• Nodal Agency - Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
• Purpose - It leverages AI, Machine Learning (ML), and Natural Language Processing (NLP) to break language barriers, providing voice-based and text-based digital services in local languages.
• Key Tools Demonstrated - Shrutlekh: An AI tool for real-time speech-to-text meeting transcription and Minutes of Meeting (MoM) generation.
• Voice-enabled healthcare interfaces - Systems capable of translating doctor-patient interactions and generating multilingual prescriptions.

Ayush Grid

• About - It is the central IT backbone designed by the Ministry of Ayush to digitize the entire Ayush sector.
• Core Sectors - It connects healthcare delivery, academic capacity building, core research, and drug administration across Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa-Rigpa, and Homoeopathy.
• Master Portal - The MAISP (Master Ayush Information System Portal) acts as the primary gateway for these integrated digital services.
