Why in News?
Recently, iFMS has entered a new phase with the introduction of a series of digital initiatives.
Integrated Fertilizer Management System (iFMS)
- iFMS – It is a digital platform designed to connect and monitor the entire fertilizer ecosystem, encompassing production, import, retail sale, and subsidy processing.
- It establishes a digital record of fertilizer movement from the point of production or import to the end user.
- Developed by – National Informatics Centre (NIC) for the Department of Fertilizers.
- New Digital Initiatives – The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has introduced new digital dashboards and analytical tools under iFMS to:
- Monitor the fertilizer supply chain more effectively.
- Improve transparency in fertilizer distribution and retail sales.
- Detect abnormal purchase patterns, supply gaps, or emerging shortages early.
- Enable data-driven decision-making at national, State, district, and retailer levels.
- Benefits
- Facilitating the detection of unusual bulk purchases or potential diversion.
- Enabling the identification of regions likely to experience fertilizer shortages.
- Supporting the analysis of fertilizer consumption patterns by crop and region.
- Enhancing the planning processes for fertilizer imports and domestic production.
- Ensuring the timely distribution of fertilizers prior to the sowing season.
- Facilitating targeted policy interventions rather than a uniform approach.
