Why in News?

Recently, Indian Peafowl has been recorded for the first time in Assam’s Orang National Park.

Indian Peafowl

Taxonomic family – Phasianidae.
Order – Galliformes.
Conservation status – IUCN Red List - Least Concern (LC).
Native to – Indian subcontinent.
Habitat – Open forests, forest edges, grasslands and agricultural landscapes.
Sexual dimorphism – Peacock (male) is brightly coloured with a large train; peahen (female) is comparatively duller.
National Bird of India – Indian Peafowl.
