Why in News?

The SAMPANN pension portal has been integrated with UMANG, enabling pensioners to access pension-related information and documents digitally.

UMANG portal

Aim – It is a mobile application and web portal, designed to provide citizens with single-point access to hundreds of central and state government services.
It is part of the Digital India initiative.
Launched in – 2017.
Developed by – Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and National e-Governance Division (NeGD).
Key Services - Unified Access - Instead of downloading multiple apps, users can access various services of governments.
EPFO Services - Check PF balance, view passbooks, and raise or track withdrawal claims.
Document Management - Integration with DigiLocker allows access and storage of official documents like Aadhaar, driving licenses, and marksheets.
Key Welfare Schemes - Access to Atal Pension Yojana, e-Shram, and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana.
Utility & Travel - Services for Bharat Gas, Indian Railways, and the Mera Ration system.
Significance – Aggregates citizen-centric services of Central, State, Local, autonomous and statutory bodies.

SAMPANN portal

Aim - It is a digital pension management platform designed to digitise the entire pension lifecycle, from enrolment and processing to disbursement and grievance redressal.
Launched in – 2018.
Developed by – Office of the Controller General of Communication Accounts.
Nodal Ministry – Department of Telecommunication, Ministry of Communications.
Beneficiaries – It is a holistic platform for Department of Telecommunications (DoT) pensioners, including Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and BSNL retirees.
Core Functionality - Direct Disbursement - Eliminates intermediaries by transferring pensions directly to bank accounts from a single common platform.
Comprehensive Lifecycle - Manages everything from case initiation and processing to issuance of e-Pension Payment Orders (e-PPOs) and grievance redressal.
Digital Profile - Pensioners can view monthly statements, track pension status, and update personal details like mobile numbers or addresses online.
Integration with UMANG – It enables pensioners of the DoT to access key pension-related information through the UMANG portal.
Integration with DigiLocker – Pensioners can securely access e-PPOs, gratuity orders, commutation orders and Form-16 anytime without the need for physical documents (Paperless access).
