Why in news?

Recently, the Ministry of Ayush unveiled the DRAVYA portal during 10th Ayurveda Day held at Goa.

  • DRAVYA – Digitized Retrieval Application for Versatile Yardstick of Ayush (DRAVYA)
  • It is an innovative online knowledge repository.
  • Goal – To build the largest database of Ayush ingredients and products.
  • Developed by – Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS)
  • Launched by – Ministry of Ayush
  • Key Features –
    • Centralized knowledge hub – DRAVYA consolidates information from classical Ayurvedic texts, contemporary scientific research, and field studies.
    • This helps standardize and scientifically validate Ayush knowledge.
    • Comprehensive database – The portal is designed to be an evolving, open-access database, with the first phase focused on cataloging 100 key medicinal substances.
    • Multifaceted information – It enables users to access detailed profiles for each substance, including its botanic, chemical, and pharmacological properties, along with its therapeutic uses, pharmacy, and safety information.
    • Advanced features – The portal offers an intuitive interface with multiple language options, AI readiness, and a modular design.
    • It also has advanced search filters for sorting by taste, potency, or effect.
    • QR code integration – To enabling standardized information display in medicinal plant gardens and drug repositories nationwide.
    • Target audience – It serves as a valuable resource for researchers, students, practitioners, policymakers, and innovators worldwide.
    • Future integration – DRAVYA is AI-ready and will eventually interlink with the Ayush Grid and other Ministry initiatives on medicinal substances and drug policy.
