Why in News?
Recently, MoSPI released the Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2024–25 results.
Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) 2024–25
- Reference period – April 2024 - March 2025.
- Fieldwork – October 2025 - June 2026.
- Conducted by – Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI).
- Objective – To provide data on the composition, growth, and structure of manufacturing industries.

- The data serve as an important input for National Accounts Statistics and policymaking.
- Coverage – The Annual Survey of Industries (ASI) encompasses the following categories:
- Factories registered under Sections 2m(i) and 2m(ii) of the Factories Act, 1948.
- Bidi and cigar manufacturing establishments registered under the Bidi and Cigar Workers Act, 1966.
- Selected electricity undertakings engaged in generation, transmission, and distribution.
- Units employing 100 or more individuals and registered in the Business Register of Establishments (BRE), provided such lists are supplied by State Governments.

Data Collection

- Data were collected in accordance with the Collection of Statistics Act, 2008, as amended in 2017.
- The relevant rules were established in 2011.
- The entire survey was administered via a dedicated web portal.
- The survey adopts an establishment-based approach rather than an enterprise-based approach.
