History, Art and Culture

Swahid diwas

  • Celebrated annually on – 10th December.
  • Aim – To pay tribute to those who took part in the Assam Movement.
  • Significance – It reaffirms the Centre's commitment to advancing Assam's cultural and developmental aspirations.

Assam movement

  • Started in – 1979, under the leadership of All Assam Students Union (AASU) and the All Assam Gana Sangram Parishad (AAGSP).
  • Officially ended on – 15th August, 1985 after coming of an understanding with the Government of India which found official expression in the memorandum of understanding popularly known as the Assam Accord 1985.

Shri C. Rajagopalachari

  • He is a Freedom fighter, thinker, intellectual statesman.
  • Born on – 10th December 1878 in Salem, Madras Province (now Tamil Nadu).
  • Political life – A close associate of Mahatma Gandhi, he left his legal career in 1919 after meeting Gandhi.
  • Contribution in – Rowlatt Act, the Non-Cooperation Movement, the Vaikom Satyagraha, and the Civil Disobedience Movement.
  • Imprisoned 5 times between – 1912 and 1941 for his role in the freedom struggle.
  • He served as the Premier of the erstwhile Madras Presidency, founded the Swatantra Party.
  • He was India’s last Governor-General and the only Indian to hold the post.
  • Awards – Bharat Ratna in 1954 for his contributions to politics, literature and public service.

International Relations and Issues

Yellow Line

Israel will continue to control more than half of Gaza, including most agricultural land and the border crossing with Egypt.

  • It is a “forward defensive line for Israeli communities”.
  • Divides – Israeli-held part of Gaza from the rest a “new border”.
  • It challenges second phase of US President Donald Trump's 20-point ceasefire plan.

2nd WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine

  • Held in – New Delhi.
  • Co-hosted by – India with World Health Organization (WHO).
  • Aim – To bring together global leaders, policymakers, researchers and experts to deliberate on innovation, evidence-based practice and future strategies in traditional medicine.
  • Significance – It highlighted India’s growing leadership in Traditional medicine.
  • It strengthens role of national research institutions in enhancing scientific credibility and global cooperation.

Economy

“Your Money Your Right” Campaign

  • Launched by – Ministry of Finance.
  • Aim – To facilitate the citizens to claim their unclaimed financial assets, including insurance policy claims, bank deposits, dividends, shares, and mutual fund proceeds, which often remain unclaimed due to lack of awareness or outdated account details.
  • Unclaimed deposits – The deposits in accounts which are not operated for a period of 10 years.

Agriculture

Integrated Farming system (IFS)

  • Supported by – Rainfed Area Development (RAD) under PM-Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (PM-RKVY).
  • Nodal ministry – Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
  • Integrated with – Activities like horticulture, livestock, fishery, agro-forestry, apiculture, etc.
  • Objectives –
    • To promote sustainable agriculture production through Integrated Farming system (IFS) models developed by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR).
    • To enable farmers to maximize farm returns for sustaining livelihood and to mitigate the impacts of extreme weather events.

Security

Indian Maritime Doctrine

  • Indian Maritime Doctrine is the Navy’s apex guidance document, laying down the principles that govern its strategy, roles and employment across the full spectrum of conflict.
  • First released in – 2004.
  • Revised in – 2009 and amended in 2015.
  • 2025 edition – It reflects major shifts in India’s maritime environment and strategic outlook over the past decade.

Indian Maritime Doctrine 2025

  • Formally recognised – “No-War, No-Peace” as a distinct category between peace and conflict for the first time.
  • New doctrine – It treats the grey zone between war and peace as a critical operational space.
  • Grey zone – It reflects the realities of contemporary maritime competition marked by coercion, hybrid operations and sub-threshold conflict.
  • Significance – It aligns closely with India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
  • It integrates key national initiatives such as Sagarmala, PM Gati Shakti, Maritime India Vision 2030, Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and MAHASAGAR.

Human Rights Day 2025

  • Observed annually on – 10th December.
  • Established in – 1950, by United Nation.
  • Commemoration to – The adoption the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on December 10, 1948.
  • Theme – "Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials” which highlights the importance of human rights in our daily lives.
  • Objectives –
    • To highlights global advancements in human rights and raises awareness about various issues.
    • To emphasises individual rights regardless of background and advocates for equality, dignity, and non-discrimination for all.
